The Endstone is a powerful Artifact that was found in The Edge after New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse.

Description

The Endstone has the appearance of a black egg-like stone with glossy highlights. Over time, it's gem-like facets faded away and it began to look more like a real egg.

The Endstone is sentient and possesses the ability to manipulate probability by altering the past through "revisions" so that the outcome it wants will happen. The Endstone cannot alter anything about the present moment, but it can alter the path of events that led up to the present moment in a way that affects what happens next.

The Endstone's revisions to reality don’t seem to be perfect, however. For instance, the mining colony on Sigma was set up and had traces of habitation even though, temporally, it never was.

History

The Endstone was created by an unknown person long ago and wound up buried beneath the planet Sigma on The Edge. It was later unearthed by a group of miners, which the Endstone removed by altering fate to give them different lives.

Through research done by Mm'menon, Tezzeret learned of the Endstone and sent teams to retrieve it. Not wanting to be retrieved in that way, the Endstone revised reality to get rid of them, but chose not to prevent Tezzeret's discovery of it. Realising what had happened, Tezzeret instead sent wildcats Sami and Tannuk to retrieve it, as they were disposable.

Sami and Tannuk found and retrieved the Endstone on Sigma. After crash-landing on Kavaron, the Endstone fell into the hands of Alpharael, who influenced it into saving him, Sami, and Tannuk from a group of Kav raiders. The Endstone rewrote the past so that the ship crashing had given the Kavs fatal radiation poisoning that came into effect at that moment.

Later, Alpharael used the Endstone to revise reality after Sami and Tannuk were killed by Haliya so that they arrived back slightly later, after Alpharael had already incapacitated her.

Tezzeret eventually came to collect the Endstone from the crew. He allowed the Endstone to guide him where it wanted them to go by randomly dropping a crystal onto a map of the Sothera system. Alpharael asked the Endstone to point them towards Infinite Guideline Station, which it did as it was already the best destination.

From Infinite Guideline Station, the Endstone guides the group into the Weft and out into the Wurmwall. There, the Endstone was collected by an unknown android-like being that created a portal into the ship. The being left with the Endstone, claiming that it was drawn to her because she is "the last thing".
