Junk is a predefined token and artifact type introduced in Universes Beyond: Fallout.

Description

Each Junk token has the artifact subtype “Junk” and the ability “{T}: Sacrifice this artifact: Exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn. Activate only as a sorcery.”

The token was designed to capture the use of Junk in the Fallout series, where miscellaneous items can be turned into useful or interesting contraptions.

Rules

Rulings

  • If you choose to play the exiled card, you pay all its costs and must follow all the normal rules for playing the card. So, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast that spell only during your main phase, and if you play a land this way, you can do so only if you haven't played a land yet this turn.
  • If you don't play the card, it just stays in exile.
  • You can't sacrifice a Junk token to pay multiple costs. For example, you can't sacrifice a Junk token to activate its own ability and also to activate the second ability of Junk Jet.
  • Some spells and abilities that create Junk tokens may require targets. If each target chosen is illegal as that spell or ability tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects happen. You won't create any Junk tokens.
