Lord Ith was a powerful wizard during the post-Brothers' War period on Terisiare (Dominaria). He was leader of the Conclave of Mages.

Description

When Jodah encountered Lord Ith, he had dirty hands, a weathered, thin, sallow face with a ragged and matted beard, and wide, mad eyes. After destroying the Conclave and restoring his sanity by Jodah's Mirror, Ith was much calmer, wearing elaborate but old-fashioned robes and shaving off his scraggly beard.

History

Ith was imprisoned in Barl's Cage by Mairsil, the Pretender. The cage hung in a cave with chains above a deep, dark abyss. Both the cage and the chains siphoned Ith's mana so it could be used to power a diversity of artifacts that were used in the great building above his cage. All the while, Ith was succumbing to madness. With a wisp of thought and a trace of his power, Lord Ith summoned a Rag Man, a messenger specter covered in rags, which he begged to go out and find help. The Rag Man tracked down Jodah and brought him to the Conclave of Mages. Jodah and Sima eventually freed Ith by destroying the cage. An enraged Ith attacked the Conclave and killed Mairsil before Jodah's Mirror restored his sanity. Ith then cast a fear spell on all of the remaining mages, causing them to flee the citadel. Ith then caused the Fall of the Conclave of Mages, destroying the entire school before retreating to be by himself.

Following his freedom, Ith allied with Tivadar during the Goblin Wars.

Continuity issues

In prerevisionist history, "Lord Ith" was not a person but a title held by Barl. When writing the Ice Age Cycle, author Jeff Grubb misinterpreted the flavor text attribution of Dark Sphere (The Dark) as "Barl, to Lord Ith", separating the two into distinct characters for the novels.
