Defense of Osgiliath
Conquest of Minas Ithil - Defense of Osgiliath - Battle of Dagorlad - Siege of Barad-dûr
In SA 3429, the Dúnedain of Gondor defended the city of Osgiliath from the hosts of Mordor in a prolonged conflict, shortly before the formal formation of the Last Alliance.
History
After the loss of Minas Ithil, Anárion was able to assemble a large enough force to successfully prevent Sauron's forces from taking the capital, Osgiliath. The enemy was driven from Ithilien and back into the Ephel Dúath. However, it was only a temporary relief as Sauron's forces would soon regroup to once again become a threat to Gondor, leading Elendil and Gil-galad to form the Last Alliance.
Minas Ithil was retaken in SA 3430, presumably ending the direct threat to Osgiliath.
