- Sauron tricks Gorlim into revealing the location of Barahir's hidden lair in Dorthonion and then kills him. He then sends an Orc force and they slay Barahir and all his outlaw band companions (except for one): Baragund, Belegund, Radhruin, Dairuin, Dagnir, Ragnor, Gildor, Arthad, Urthel, and Hathaldir.
- Beren is the only one to escape the massacre and he pursues the Orcs' warband, slaying them and retrieving the stolen Ring of Barahir. He then becomes a solitary outlaw for the next couple of years.
