Events
- Húrin leaves Hithlum with Asgon and six other companions; they go down to the south.
- Húrin leaves his companions in Dimbar and seeks in vain an entrance to Gondolin, but Morgoth's spies thus learn in what region the city stands.
- Húrin comes to the Stone of the Hapless and there finds his wife Morwen just before she dies.
- Coming towards the ford of Teiglin, Húrin falls unconscious beside the Haudh-en-Elleth, where the guards of Brethil find him in the morning. Húrin then is put on trial in the Folkmoot for Judgement by Hardang, the Halbar of the Haladin, but is aided by Manthor, who gains the people over Húrin's side, and in the following revolt Obel Halad is burned and Hardang is slain.
- Accompanied by some men and women of Haleth, Húrin and Manthor bury Morwen properly and hold feast in her memory in Nen Girith. Next day Daruin kills Manthor.
- Húrin finds Asgon again and gathers other men to leave Brethil and move towards Nargothrond.
