The Books of Faerie: Auberon's Tale #2: Book 2: The Pretender

Published: 1998 by DC Comics
Author: Bronwyn Carlton Taggart

The troll Sturm, who killed the previous King of Faerie, Magnus, runs home to Grimwar and tells Huonnor what happened. Huonnor is one of the people most eligible for the throne, so if he becomes king, he can give Sturm a pardon.

Huonnor gets together a small army and marches towards the central court to press his claim. However, the child Auberon also has a claim and has his own army, led by Obrey.

Auberon's aunt, Dymphna, and her assistant, Bridey, bring him his father's sword for good luck. Dymphna and Obrey begin to rekindle their childhood romance.

The two armies fight, and Huonnor finds Auberon, but doesn't realize who he is. Obrey finds them and explains. Huonnor feels he cannot honorably fight a child, so he gives up and is imprisoned.

Auberon wants to give Obrey great honors for his help, but Amadan tricks him into thinking that it would hurt Obrey's pride to be honored like that. Instead he should just say thanks. In reality, this is the true insult to Obrey, and a divide grows between him and Auberon, as Amadan intends.
