Overview
Nike is the personification of the spirit of victory, and as such is a somewhat shallow and fickle being who thinks only of conflict and ultimate triumph. If a situation cannot be defined in terms of conflict, with definite conditions for determining victory, she considers it below her notice. She is often called upon by Ares or Athena to accompany them into battle, assuring victory for one side or the other. However, Nike cannot be compelled, and goes whenever and wherever she desires.
Description
Nike appears as a tall, winged woman.
Holy symbol
Nike's symbol is a winged woman.
Favored weapon
Nike wields a light mace with all the abilities of a staff of power.
Possessions
Nike is the sister of Eris, goddess of discord and strife, and between them they possess three golden apples. Rumors suggest that the apples compel any mortals who sees one to possess it: toss one in the path of a charging foe, and they will be overcome by the compulsion to possess the apple for themselves. In addition, conditions can be set that have to be met before the "victim" can gain ownership of the apple.
The first bite out of a golden apple, cures all disease; the second bite makes the same person young again, and the third bite makes them immortal (but not invulnerable).
Realm
Great Wheel cosmology
In the Great Wheel cosmology, Nike does not reside within a planar realm of her own. Instead she maintains quarters within the fortress-palaces of both Ares and Athena which guard the entrances to the planar realm of Olympus, which is located on Arvandor (also known as Olympus), the first layer of the Olympian Glades of Arborea.
Olympian cosmology
In the Olympian cosmology, Nike resides within the outer planar realm of Olympus, a great mountain which stands at the center of the world. This mighty peak rises so high above the world, that its heights form a distinct planar realm. It serves as home to the majority of the Olympian deities, not including Hades, and each deity maintains their own personal domain within this realm.
Worship
Nike has few priests, and they tend to be fanatical adherents of competing sects and factions. Each is usually convinced that their particular philosophy is destined for ultimate victory.
In Spelljammer
The inhabitants of Greatspace revere the gods and goddesses of the Greek pantheon, especially Zeus, meaning that Nike can be considered a native deity.
