Sentinels, The

Overview

The Sentinels were an adventuring company from Greyspace who dedicated their lives to hunting down spacefaring pirates and other nefarious evil-doers. Depending on who was asked, they were seen either as dangerous vigilantes or benevolent guardians. Over the years, the Sentinels had destroyed at least three pirate bands preying on spacefaring ships in Greyspace, and were the only known company to have ever defeated one of the Black Company's vessels - in this case a heavily armed hammership.

Several times, the Sentinels arrived in the nick of time to save a vessel during a pirate attack (leading to speculation about the company's source of information), driving off or destroying the attackers. At no time have the Sentinels asked for a reward, though they have accepted donations in the past.

Base of Operations

The location of the Sentinels' main base of operations was unknown, or even if they had one, though rumors did persist that they maintained a base on Raenei, Greela, the Spectre or somewhere in the Grinder.

Ships

The Sentinels operated an octopus ship named the Swift Justice, which was commanded by Trane Karagani.

Relationships

Enemies

The Sentinels dedicated their lives to hunting down those groups that threatened shipping in Greyspace, including the neogi and pirates, especially the pirate fleet known as the Black Company.

Members

The Sentinels were led by Trane Karagani, with the assistance of his trusted lieutenants, the war mage Liamon Gord, the helmsman Fleck Pitor, and "Spike", the hadozee chief of marines. The rest of the ship's complement consisted of a mix of humans and hadozee.

Rumors

Nobody knew much about the Sentinels, and there were many conflicting rumors about their origins. Some claimed the Sentinels were pirates themselves, and that they were simply wiping out all competition in Greyspace before going into business themselves. Others claimed the Sentinels had been pirates at one time, but had seen the error of their ways and were trying to redeem themselves by destroying other pirate groups. A third rumor claimed that they were survivors of a ship ravaged by pirates and that they were taking revenge for their dead comrades.
