Ching Tao Ling

Overview

Ching Tao Ling had been chartered as the captain of the Crimson Caravan’s galleon for the past three years and couldn't be happier. He relished the opportunity to sail from world to world as they plied the Caravan's trade routes, which allowed him to explore new societies and cultures. He was hopeful that the merchant's appreciated his skills as captain so that when his contract came up for renewal in the next few years they wouldn't hesitate.

Personality

Ching lived for adventure and the opportunity to face an equal in combat. During his travels he learned that magic could be a powerful tool, and wanted as many tools as possible at his disposal. To that end, he was continually on the lookout for magic that would improve his chances of survival and effectiveness in battle. Ching enjoyed the various interactions he had with the diverse group of merchants he worked for, though he was occasionally troubled by the greed that drove many of them.

Possessions

Ching wore a ring and a cloak of protection, and was armed with an enchanted spear. He also carried a decanter of endless water.

Relationships

Friends

Ching had become close friends with Dao Ming, the Shou captain of the Golden Blade, and they often swapped stories about ships they had encountered in wildspace, rumors about local pirates, and updates on what was happening in the various spelljamming ports.

Crew

As captain, Ching had absolute authority over everyone onboard the Caravan's oversized galleon. In addition to the vessel's standard complement of sailors, there were also the thirty-six merchants who owned the vessel, their personal servants, and an armed contingent of mercenaries and spellcasters.

History

Ching was a native of Shou Lung on Toril in Realmspace, and was but a youth when he joined a group of seasoned adventurers who set off to explore the world of Chislev in Krynnspace. Fascinated by life in wildspace, the young kensai discovered that he felt more alive exploring other worlds and on the deck of a spelljammer than back home. After leaving Chislev, Ching found another ship to sign with, and set off to discover new creatures, peoples and customs. During his travels, he learned to speak various languages, including dwarven, elven, gnomish, lizardman, minotaur, and various dialects of the common trade tongue.
