Hand of Reorx, The

Overview

The Hand of Reorx was a company of religious dwarves and gnomes native to the planet Reorx who were determined to spread the word about the glory of their god Reorx to newcomers to Krynnspace. To this end they patrolled wildspace just beyond the Stellar Islands, waiting to meet incoming ships as they entered the sphere.

Having determined whether the incoming vessel was hostile or not, The Hand would approach on an intercept course, signalling their friendly intentions (the crew were quick to avoid any neogi vessels and were equally cautious around squidships). If the other ship responded in a positive manner and allowed The Hand to pull up alongside, the dwarves and gnomes would offer the other crew food and drink, and their fellowship.

After introducing themselves, the company would offer to share information about Krynnspace - if their new friends would but listen a few moments to the glory of their god Reorx. The crew of The Hand wanted nothing more than to convert newcomers to the worship of the World Smith- or at the very least make them well-disposed toward the god. They also would encourage newcomers to visit the planet Reorx and trade with the dwarves and gnomes who worked the mines there. If the newcomers treated the company of The Hand with respect and seemed sincerely interested in what they had to say, the company would even offer to escort their ship while in Krynnspace, making their voyage safer. Having sailed wildspace for the last three years, the company had no intention of ending their crusade any time soon.

Activities

The Hand of Reorx prided themselves on their lack of prejudice - they were equally willing to converse with elves, half-elves, kender, and other races, and treated them with the same respect they offered to other dwarves and gnomes. The company hoped that their actions would eventually influence the behavior of their planetary-bound brothers on Reorx, warming them towards other races.

Base of Operations

The Hand of Reorx was based at one of the spelljammer ports on the planet Reorx in Krynnspace, though they spent most of their time patrolling wildspace beyond the Stellar Islands, or escorting ships new to the sphere.

Ships

The company operated a tradesman named The Hand. The young dwarf Forge Irongrip considered himself the captain of The Hand, (despite there being more experienced warriors and leaders among his followers) and he appointed the gnome Walfrid Hyghseeker as the ship's primary helmsman.

History

When the young dwarf Forge Irongrip died in a mining accident many years ago, his family paid a priest handsomely to “bring their son back”. After being successfully raised, Forge claimed that his spirit travelled to a great feast hall at the center of the world, where he met the god Reorx. Awed by the experience (and a little upset about being brought back), he came to believe the entire ordeal was a sign that he had to spread the word of the glory of Reorx, the World Smith.

Deciding to keep his experiences in the feast hall to himself, Forge began preaching in ernest about the greatness of his god. Soon, his charisma and passion began drawing others to him, and he eventually abandoned his mining career to pursue preaching full time. However, it didn’t take Forge long to realize that the dwarves and gnomes of his homeworld didn’t need a great deal of convincing, as many of them already worshipped the god.

Still, driven by the need to spread the word, Forge convinced his family that he needed to take his crusade to other worlds, and eventually they purchased a second-hand tradesman from a captain who had decided to make Reorx his home. Naming the vessel The Hand, Forge gathered some of his most devout followers, as well as a gnome who could pilot the ship, and took off for wildspace.

Members

The company was led by the young dwarf Forge Irongrip and included a devout crew of twenty dwarves and gnomes originally from the world Reorx.
