Nuitari (deity)

This article is about the deity Nuitari; if you are looking for the moon of the same name see here.

Overview

Nuitari was originally the divine personification of ambition; however, when he and his cousins chose self-imposed exile to be closer to Krynn, he chose to incarnate his power into Krynn’s black moon. Nuitari is focussed on exploiting magic’s tenacious grasp on the mind, body, and soul, and watches over his Black Robe wizards as they gather power, control, and mastery over hidden and unspeakable spells and rituals. He is an unseen and silent presence in the heavens, swiftly passing over the world, outpacing Solinari and Lunitari.

Nuitari is the son of Takhisis, the Queen of Darkness, and Sargonnas, the Red Condor.

Description

Nuitari appears as a Black Robe wizard, either as a human or ogre, with pale skin or a fleshy, moon-like face, or both.

Holy symbol

Nuitari's symbol is a black circle or sphere.

Celestial symbol

Nuitari is associated with the Black Moon, Nuitari. According to legend, the deity resides within the moon. An avatar of Nuitari frequently visits the moon to use it as a powerful wizard's eye or giant crystal ball to view events across the sphere. Most often Nuitari focuses his attention on the world of Krynn, but he also frequently spies on his cousins, Lunitari and Solinari, to see if their avatars are busy working on some scheme. Nuitari delights in putting into motion various plans that affect life on Krynn - especially when the moon Solinari is behind Krynn, preventing that god from watching him.

Favored weapon

Nuitari does not wield a weapon, preferring to use magic.

Realm

Krynnish cosmology

In the cosmology of Krynnspace, Nuitari once resided within the Abyss, alongside the rest of the Gods of Darkness, but has since moved to the Plane of Shadow to be closer to Krynn and his Black Robe wizards, and now resides within his moon.

Great Wheel cosmology

In the Great Wheel cosmology, Nuitari originally resided within the Lost Citadel of Magic on the Ethereal plane, along with his cousins, Solinari and Lunitari. The Lost Citadel was originally the Citadel of Mysteries, built by the three founders of High Sorcery before being ripped from Krynn at the conclusion of the Second Dragon War.

Worship

Nuitari does not have a clerical order dedicated to his worship. Instead he serves as patron deity of the Black Robe wizards of High Sorcery. Nuitari's worshippers are taught that magic is secretive and is to be coveted. Those who use magic to gain power are often seduced into serving Nuitari, who promises them that they will gain powerful magic much quicker if they worship him, rather than the careful Solinari or the cautious Lunitari.

In Spelljammer

Nuitari is a member of the Gods of Darkness and is considered native to Krynnspace.
