Stellar Nomads

"What can we give our gnome brothers? Our hearts? Our friendship? Our knowledge? All of these, for they offer these things and more in return."
- Sebrethat, revered dracon kaba

Overview

"The ribbons link the islands, like our hands link our peoples. The ribbons cannot be broken, nor can the spirits of the gnomes and dracons."
- Widdlefinger Leverett III, first gnome ambassador to the dracon.

The Stellar Nomads were a blended community of dracons and gnomes founded by the dracon Kaba, Eremic Besoom of the Watery Glade, and the gnomish leader, Croakumshire Taniwha-Tanquam. They travelled from island-oasis to island-oasis via magical bridges known as ribbon walkways, never staying in one spot for more than a few months. The community generated income from selling dishes and works of art made from hardened lava, while the gnomes collected broken objects which they would fix or combine to create new devices.

Activities

Kaba Eremic Besoom urged his people to embrace the other races of the Stellar Islands, and encouraged them to deal fairly with off-world merchants and spacefaring explorers.

Base of Operations

The Stellar Nomads were a nomadic community that lived on the asteroid cluster known as the Stellar Islands, located in the crystal sphere known as Krynnspace.

History

"Dishes. Plates. They're ok. But we have to find a way to fashion weapons out of the lava."
- frustrated giff fighter.

The young dracon Eremic Besoom gained fame and notoriety when he invented a way of pouring cooling lava into molds to produce dishes, utensils and works of art. Soon his invention spread across the Stellar Islands, and was adopted by the giff who became masters at the art, and whose products began to demand high prices on Reorx, Krynn and some of the moons of Zivilyn. When he was named kaba or leader of his people, Eremic urged them to forge friendly relations with the other races of the Stellar Islands, and to cooperate with them. Soon, the dracons had become fast friends with the local gnomes and grommams. In fact, the dracons became especially close to the gnomes - in many ways, their whimsical nature helped complement the seriousness of the dracons - and eventually the two communities joined together to create a single settlement.

Several years ago, the settlement was destroyed by an unusually powerful volcanic eruption. Instead of rebuilding, Eremic convinced both the dracons and the gnomes to instead adopt a nomadic lifestyle, and to take up travelling from island to island via the ribbon walkways. As he said, "The ribbon paths are there for a reason. Let us use them." And so the dracons and the gnomes joined together into a single community known as the Stellar Nomads. Eremic and his co-leader, the venerable gnome priest Croakumshire, became close companions and firm friends, and often spent hours in conference over even the most minor of decisions.
