Strike, The

Overview

The Strike were among the most feared pirate bands in the whole of Krynnspace, pillaging ships throughout wildspace and leaving utter devastation in their wake.

Activities

The Strike focussed most of their efforts on the region around the planets Chislev and Zivilyn, as well as Zivilyn's many moons. Dagger Iceblood, the captain of the Strike, was well aware that other regions of wildspace were heavily patrolled by ships powerful enough to pose a threat to the Strike, and even if they couldn't face the pirates head on, they could warn others of their presence. Of particular interest to the Strike were ships that were leaving Chislev and Zivilyn's moons, as they were often laden with items of value.

Tactics

The Strike executed its attacks on target vessels with all the grace and elegance of a well rehearsed dance. Many of the crew were expert marksmen with the ship's ballistae and catapult, and used these weapons to great effect while the Strike's spellcasters further weakened their opponents.

In most cases the target ship's crew were given an opportunity to surrender (and in most cases they capitulated). This allowed the Strike to pillage the target ship and to wrest personal belongings from each crew member without having to worry that valuable items were being destroyed during a drawn-out battle. When everything of value had been taken, the crew were slaughtered and the ship was gutted. The Strike would abandon the derelict hulk to drift in wildspace as a morbid trophy for other voyagers to discover.

Of course, the Strike didn't prey on every ship that crossed their path. Both the captain and his crew were shrewd enough not to knowingly pick a target that could pose a serious threat to themselves. For example, Dagger Iceblood was well aware that the Crimson Caravan often carried valuable cargo and that the Golden Blade company carried more esoteric though no less valuable items and would dearly love to grind both companies into wildspace dust. However, he knew better than to risk his own ship and the lives of his crew on such a venture. Still, Dagger monitored the movements of both their ships in the hope of one day finding them in a vulnerable position, and when the time was right, he would strike - having the opportunity to pillage either of these ships would be glorious.

Ships

The Strike operated a neogi deathspider that had been extensively remodelled to suit their needs.

Members

The Strike was led by Dagger Iceblood, who was assisted by his officers, including first mate Geva of the Red Hills, second mate Blase Terror, and the ship's mage Blackheart. The rest of the band's membership was made up of sixty human and half-elven marauders who had made careers out of death and destruction.
