This article is about the deity Zivilyn; if you are looking for the planet of the same name see here.
Overview
Zivilyn, more than any other deity, extends his interests and his awareness into all times and all places, like the branches of a many-limbed tree. His interest lies in the promotion of awareness and insight, both internally and externally. The River of Time winds eternal, and Zivilyn dwells partially within this river as much as he exists outside of it. As a result, he can foster understanding, cause and effect, justification, and spiritual consciousness.
Zivilyn is close to his mate, Chislev the World Mother, whose primal nature is free of ignorance or dispute. They are evenly matched and act in harmony.
Description
Zivilyn assumes various forms, including a blind monk; a black-skinned child with white hair, and eyes that mirror the stars; a calm and peaceful peasant with a sturdy wooden cane; or as a wizened old man with a long, white beard bearing an hourglass. He can also appear as a broad-limbed treant. Zivilyn is often accompanied by odd shifts in time, temporal distortions similar to the effects of slow and haste spells that last only a round or two, or glimpses of pure insight.
Holy symbol
Zivilyn's holy symbol is a great green and gold tree.
Celestial symbol
Zivilyn is associated with the planet Zivilyn. Similar to the other deities of Krynnspace, Zivilyn uses his world as a crystal ball, allowing the god to keep an eye on the sphere and monitor the events occurring on the various worlds. An avatar of Zivilyn makes his home on the 12 moons, traveling to a different moon each month for a different view of Krynnspace.
Favored Weapon
Zivilyn wields a quarterstaff known as the Cane of Enlightenment.
Realm
Krynnspace cosmology
In the cosmology of Krynnspace, Zivilyn and his partner Chislev make their home within Zhan (Zaan), the greatest of forests, which surrounds the Hidden Vale where most of the Gods of Balance reside.
Great Wheel cosmology
In the Great Wheel Cosmology, Zivilyn and Chislev reside within Zhan, the Grand Forest Beyond the World, which is located on Karasuthra, the third layer of the Wilderness of the Beastlands.
Worship
Zivilyn teaches his followers that wisdom transcends both good and evil, and is a force in itself. He requires that his priests recognise that wisdom comes with age - the older the priest the higher their standing within the church. Zivilyn's clerics serve as counselors, mediators, philosophers and diplomats, and in places where there are no priests of Paladine, they serve as legal officials and advisors during trials.
In Spelljammer
Zivilyn is a member of the Gods of Balance and is considered native to Krynnspace.
