The Adder River was described as being a wide, slow flowing river with muddy water. Lush vegetation surrounded the river for its entire length, hiding plenty of dangerous snakes.

Oar-powered Chessentan triremes plied the waters of the often windless bay and there were many small harbors for ships to pull into.
