Description
The Foramere Basin is located south of Westruun, north of the Frostweald, and southwest of Kymal. The lake is fed by three rivers: the Byhills River flows from the Cliffkeep Mountains in the northwest, the Tundrun River from the Stormcrest Mountains in the south, and the Wildpath River from the Summit Peaks to the east. After especially hard winters, these rivers run hard and fast, and the overflows spill into Owlset Bay, creating the Foramere Waterway.
Society
The area around the basin is primarily small fishing villages which trade with Westruun and Kymal. These villages are notable for being the home to many descendants of warriors of the Icelost Years conflict, both those descended from the dwarves of Kraghammer and the elves of Syngorn. As a result, the tensions that currently exist elsewhere in Tal'Dorei between those two societies are forgotten here, and the villages are known as a haven for half-elves and elves who become disillusioned with Syngorn.
History
During the Icelost years, Errevon's ice fortress was located in Foramere Basin. Here the combined forces of Kraghammer, Syngorn, Empire of Tal'Dorei, and the Ashari banished the Rimelord back into the Frostfell and brought an end to the Icelost Years. Following his defeat, the fortress melted, creating the lake in Foramere Basin which to this day serves as the largest fresh water source in the region.
After the Chroma Conclave attacked Tal'Dorei and Westruun was overtaken by Umbrasyl and Kevdak's roving band of barbarians, many of Westruun's citizens fled the area. While some refugees were welcomed into Kymal, many were turned away due to the sheer number of people displaced. Those people travelled to the Foramere Basin and established an encampment. Vox Machina, on their way to the Cavern of Axiom as part of their quest for the Vestiges of Divergence, helped rescue some of the refugees who had been abducted by orcs from the nearby Frostweald, and passed through the encampment a second time on their way to liberate Westruun.
