Urzin
A mobile town built atop the backs of a herd of horizonback tortoises, Urzin came under the crontrol of the Kryn Dynasty in 795 PD when the warrior Sunbreaker Olomon defeated the town's previous champion and leader, Buhfal I.
Fort Venture
A Righteous Brand outpost built at the base of the Brokenveil Bluffs in 835 PD during the War of Ash and Light. During that time it was lead by a bloodthirsty Imperial Inquisitor, Parson Pellinost.
Ritual stone
An eight-foot-tall, three-foot-wide stone jagged black monolith laced with crystals that glows dimly under moonlight. This menhir acted as a monument to a dark, primordial god, and nowadays spellcasters that rest here can perform a ritual to cast Commune. Once the spell is cast, the ritual stone can't do so again until Catha's next full moon. Warlocks that commune with their patron gain inspiration and the effects of the Guidance cantrip for up to three days.
Fragments of the ritual stone can be used to cast Augury once until the next dusk, though this trait fades from the fragment if it is taken away from the stone. Attempting to chip away more fragments can incur psychic damage.
Other locations
- Sunken boneyard: The site of numerous horizonback tortoise skeletons. A group of cannibalistic, demon-worshipping lizardfolk lead by Skr'a S'orsk considered this place to be holy and took up residence here in 835 PD.
- Crumbling tower: An ancient tower built before the Calamity. In 835 PD, several giant spiders dwell here.
- Bullywug cave: A stoney hill with a small cave, surrounded by a moat. A clan of bullywugs and their giant toads live here.
History
The mountains between Western and Eastern Wynandir were at one time continuous, but were cleft during the Calamity, creating the two passes which are now the only land routes between Xhorhas and the Dwendalian Empire.
The inhospitable and difficult-to-traverse region of the Brokenveil has formed a natural barrier between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty of Xhorhas for many years. However, it became the location of many of the skirmishes and battles immediately leading up to and during the War of Ash and Light between the two nations, leaving many of the dead on both sides buried in the dark muck.
Unwelcome Spirits
During the War of Ash and Light, the goblin warlock and town seer of Urzin, Bol'bara, was captured by Righteous Brand soldiers and held at the Dwendalian outpost Fort Venture, where she was tortured by Imperial inquisitor Parson Pellinost, a cultist of Vesh. Buhfal II hired a group of adventurers to travel into the marsh and rescue Bol'bara. Unless the adventurers reached the fort in time, Bol'bara's torture lead to her possession by her shadow demon patron Trush, after which she rampaged through the fort and needed to be stopped by the same group of adventures hired to rescue her.
