Description

The temple is a massive, beautiful structure that has detailed masonry and sculpture work, high-reaching stone arches housing towering stained glass windows that depict various stages of the sun in the sky, statues of ten-foot-high armored soldiers set into pillars like celestial guardians, and multiple stories that climb to a great spire. Every square foot of the exterior is covered with subtle carvings of vines and leaves that frame the powerful supports, all reaching upwards toward the stretching rays of the sun upon each of the depictions.

Interior

The interior is a glorious hall of towering stone walls draped in red velvet banners, with chiseled detail framing the numerous 40-foot tall stained glass windows bearing images of holy stories of Pelor. In the center is a raised central platform holding an altar of the Dawnfather. Among the pews are two large towers that rise up in the middle of the chamber with balconies, and there are a set of raised royal seats towards the back that face the entire inside with stairs that raise up to them. In the background of the hall are double doors leading to a staircase downward to the basement.

Basement

Through the double doors and about 50 feet below, there is an underground level with four open bedroom chambers. Further down the stairs is a humid and moldy crypt lined with shelves of bones and corpses, with four ember-filled braziers surrounding a central brazier in the shape of the Dawnfather. The brazier located in the back left side of the crypt has a two-inch lever in its bottom that can be released by lighting all the braziers. Pulling the lever opens a square stone door on the back side of the central Pelor brazier revealing a narrow stone staircase descending a hundred feet further down.

The staircase leads to a cylindrical chamber made of rough, ancient rock, with three load-bearing pillars. It has a ancient obelisk in the center bearing bright white-yellow glowing runes in Celestial reading, "Eternal. Bound. Forever at bay. Left to darkness. Secret." A bright light crowns the obelisk and three thick gold chains lead from it to different walls of the room.

" The Cathedral " (2x86)

The Mighty Nein, with the aid of Pumat Sol, intercepted Obann and the Angel of Irons cult in the Chantry of the Dawn and a battle ensued inside the church. The Mighty Nein first battled the Cardinal Respa, her cultists, and multpile dretches. Then, from the basement emerged Obann, Jourrael, the Caedogeist, the Laughing Hand, and Yasha Nydoorin. Taking and dealing heavy hits, the Mighty Nein managed to kill the Laughing Hand and Caduceus Clay freed Yasha from Obann's charm. However, Obann was successful in charming Nott the Brave and both retreated back to the staircase leading to the basement. The Mighty Nein gave chase while Pumat was fighting the remaining dretches and cultists.

Down in the moldy crypt, the Mighty Nein found the secret staircase that leads to the cylindrical chamber. Before they enter, Caleb Widogast freed Nott from the charm and the group entered to attack Obann and Jourrael. Yasha, freshly freed from his control, had the killing blow on Obaan. Because of his failure, Obaan is transformed into a monstrous and hideous creature by the the Chained Oblivion.

" Punishment and Politics " (2x87)

The Mighty Nein battled the now transformed Obann the Punished. After an intense and complicated battle, Jourreal, recently freed from Obann's domination when he first fell, helped the Mighty Nein and even dealt the killing blow on Obann the Punished. Exhausted, they head back upstairs to the main cathedral and discover that the Chantry has been invested with Righteous Brand soldiers lead by Marshall Ishmara and Cobalt Soul members including Archivist Kathedoc. The Mighty Nein reunited with a heavily wounded Pumat Sol who tells them what happened. They are now under investigation for the events that had transpired and are escorted out of the cathedral.

" Frigid Propositions " (2x109)

While passing through Rexxentrum, the Mighty Nein stopped by the Chantry to see the damage after the battle in " The Cathedral " (2x86). They had a moment of introspection and Yasha Nydoorin told the party she feels as though she's being rebuilt, like the temple.
