Description

The Crystalsands Tundra gets its name from the ice-encrusted sand dunes of its terrain that appear crystalline in the light. It is a frozen, tundra-like snow desert formed of small beads of ice and frozen snow that lie across endless dunes, rocky outcroppings, and oddly shaped bits of earth that poke from the landscape.

It is said that when the dunes shift in the wind, ancient ruins can sometimes be seen.

It is a cold and empty place, hostile to travelers, and what few inhabitants it has are primarily nomadic. Some are goblins who hunt the creatures living in the tundra. There is also a small clan of wildfolk worshipers of Quajath, called the Mawcotters. In addition to the food they acquire through hunting and trapping, the Mawcotters consume the flesh of Quajath, which they mine during their annual pilgrimages to Eiselcross.

Fauna

Many dangerous cold-weather creatures live in the region. In addition to the partially-domesticated winter wolves ridden by the goblin nomads of the tundra, there are frost worms and remorhazes underground. Their tunnels, particularly when hidden by snow, can be extremely dangerous to unaware travelers. Giant owls and hawks from the Flotket Alps to the east hunt here as well. Several groups of yetis prowl the area, some intelligent, and of varying levels of friendliness.

History

Prior to the Calamity, the land that is now the Crystalsands Tundra was part of the Veluthil Forest, but it is said that a battle during that period turned it into a barren and frozen desert.
