Description
Near Asarius, the Ifolon's width varies from about 20 to 50 feet across, and the mud along the riverbank is nearly black, but tinged with red. It has a strong current and some whitewater rapids.
The river is at least hundreds of feet wide where it passes Jigow into the sea, and here too it has a rushing current. The small, rocky Black Islands, honeycombed by a network of underwater caves, sit at the mouth of the river.
Flora
According to Madam Musk, tumor moss, an ingredient in healing potions, grows in a small grove outside Asarius along the eastern bank of the river.
In a natural cave system at the mouth of the Ifolon River beside Jigow, there is a species of carnivorous sea grass called ghostgrass.
Fauna
The Ifolon is a source of fish for the people of both Asarius and Jigow. Ifolon striped sharks prowl the strong currents around Jigow, near where the river empties into the Emerald Gulch Sea.

The cities of Asarius and Jigow both are situated along the river, with Jigow located on the coast, where the Ifolon flows into the Emerald Gulch Sea.
Campaign Two: The Mighty Nein
The Mighty Nein spotted the river after they first entered Xhorhas in early 836 PD. They asked Gluzzo, a local bugbear, for advice on how to cross it and he told them that he usually swims, although it is difficult to do so. The party gave Gluzzo a rope to bring across to help guide them, and Nott walked over the rapids with her Ring of Water Walking, after which Fjord cast Control Water to part the river and make a path for the rest of the group.
Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep
As of 836 PD, Jigow's Festival of Merit involves multiple competitions in the Ifolon River, including swimming against its current and braving the local sharks to retrieve a spear, and the final contest, which requires teams to dive into a natural cave system at the mouth of the river to retrieve an amulet. However, unbeknownst to the locals, this cave system connects to an ancient sunken temple where Alyxian once prayed for the blessing of the Moonweaver and received the Jewel of Three Prayers, and the parties who compete in the challenge discover the Jewel there—placed by the three gods who had blessed him during the Calamity, in the hopes that a band of adventurers would find it, learn of their champion's plight, and save him.
