The Vesper Timberland (sometimes written and pronounced "Vasper") is an extremely dark, oppressive, almost unnaturally fast-growing forest in Othanzia near Vasselheim. It is huge and sprawling, going for miles before bleeding into the endless tundra to the north. It is noted for containing many dangerous beasts, which provides no shortage of game for the Slayer's Take to hunt.
History
While on a mission for the Slayer's Take, Grog, Lyra, Percy, Scanlan, Vex'ahlia, and Zahra Hydris traveled through the Vesper Timberland. On their first night camping in the forest near the Glasswalk Road, they were attacked by a group of orc raiders accompanied by an orc- ogre hybrid (an ogrillon) and a dire wolf. The next day, in an area frozen by its proximity to a white dragon's lair, they bypassed a long lake and a series of stone ruins inhabited by a glowing creature they couldn't identify from a distance.
In the aftermath of Vecna's defeat, Sylas Briarwood was last seen fleeing into the forest in his bat form.
In 836 PD, when Reani was researching poisonous plants, a book in Uthodurn's Vellum Steeple Archive mentioned something growing in the "Vesperwood" in Issylra.
Around 839 PD the Re-Slayer's Take, after defeating multiple undead enemies controlled by Putridius Festerkin, traveled to the Timberland to face the dark druid. He was in Dead Man's Table, a tall plateau, flat on the top, which from 100 feet up was completely barren because of the ancient ritual performed there. The Timberblight was waiting for the adventurers and fought them, but they defeated him. Not long after the revenant druid came back to life and manifested as a mouth in the slate of the plateau to talk to Grimm Heldwell and struck a deal with him.
In 843 PD, Bell's Hells and Essek Thelyss, attempting to teleport to Eiselcross against its interference with magical travel, were redirected to a series of cold, mountainous areas across the world. One of their inadvertent destinations was a snowy glade in a forest of densely packed pine trees, near which they saw snow rabbits and caught a boar. Climbing to the top of one tree, Fearne Calloway beheld a valley with scattered wisps of smoke, and thought she saw, many miles away, a frozen lake and a massive mountain on the side of which was situated a very large city with multiple layers of high battlements. They were presumably in the Vesper Timberland, with Vasselheim visible in the distance.
