Description

The island has beaches of black sand, jungles with trees of green leaves and wood with striations of black and gray, and a cave system beneath the mountain with veins of quartz-like ore. In the forest there are markings hanging from branches left by the people of Yutazo, along with big statues that show the path to the village. When the Nein Heroez visited Evaterena it was surrounded by a greenish mist.

The spiritual side of the island has a similar terrain, but a difference was that the flora displayed a red and purple pigmentation. There was also a dark river coming from the cave, like a shadowy mountain moving across the island and causing people to lose vitality and experience distress.

The most remarkable place of the island is Kurunpa-Mina, the local mountain. Its top exploded, but the detonation was contained immediately after, so most of the shards are locked, frozen in the air and barely moving through the clouds.

Right above Evaterena there is a very small floating island in the sky, in which there is a garden and a now abandoned cottage created with magic.

History

During the Calamity a primordial known as the fractured titan was destroyed, and one of its dead shards, filled with its vengeful shadow, ended up in Evaterena, beneath its mountain, where it started producing veins of shining ore (quartz-like crystal with a somewhat spectral quality) that affected the local spirits; the fractured titan, however, remained undisturbed for centuries, while on the surface the village of Yutazo prospered under the protection of their local idol.

At some point during or before 843 PD, a Wanderman captain who was making business with the Plank King ended up staying with her crew in a cave of that island, while they made deals with the townsfolk of Yutazo. When the sailors found the ore they started extracting it, unintentionally disturbing the titan; the power of the fallen primordial started growing and corrupting the rest of the island, causing the Sundering: Kurunpa-Mina exploded, and although the Spirit of the Island managed to contain the blast, he himself ended up affected by the power of the primordial, since him and Evaterena were split in two: the physical aspect of the island, and the spiritual one. The titan's deadly energy started coming out through the cracks of the mountain, producing lethal waves that weakened the people of Yutazo until they were petrified (this being actually a protective measure from the island itself to prevent further damage). Its power extended to the coast surrounding the island, causing visitors to end up in either the physical or spiritual side of Evaterena.

Months after the end of the Era of Reclamation the Mighty Nein and Bells Hells arrived to Evaterena, and with the help of Ethel Rivergold they were able to restore the island and its inhabitants, both mortals and spirits.

Society

The island is inhabited by many spirits, but the only known humanoid settlement is the village of Yutazo, inhabited by half-giants who maintain their old traditions and honor their ancestors, and prosper under the protection of a primordial idol, the very Spirit of Evaterena. On occasion they deal with outsiders, such as sailors from the Wanderman Assembly, and from them they can obtain goods that can't be found on their island. The locals speak their own language, and mark their monuments with specific symbols that, even without being a language, provide information.
