Description
Although sources have referred to the Curtain as a fog bank that could be sailed past, it actually appears to cover at least the area around the island of Slival within the archipelago. There, the Curtain rises at least 600 feet high and covers everything within view from that height, with only occasional breaks where the ocean can be dimly seen below.
The Curtain is inhabited by Cloud Jaws, immense sky whales that weave through the top parts of the fog bank. Although according to Jirana they are simply "living by their nature", they are the reason skyships do not venture into the Curtain, since they like to eat what comes within close range. However, the cloud jaws don't like the water so they don't disturb traveling by ship.
History
The Fool's Curtain was presumably created at the same time as the Shattered Teeth, during the catastrophic magical explosion of the city of Avalir just prior to The Calamity.
In 843 PD, Bells Hells were Transported Via Plants by Keyleth to the island of Slival to talk to Jirana about the Great Tree of Atrophy where they could potentially learn more of Ashton Greymoore's nature. Soon after the accomplishment of the Rites of Catatheosis and Predathos's departure from Exandria, Bells Hells and the Mighty Nein aboard the Nein Heroez passed the Fool's Curtain in order to seek Ludinus Da'leth's whereabouts somewhere in the Shattered Teeth.
