Darrington Brigade

The Darrington Brigade is a non-profit adventuring group operating mostly in Wildemount. Modeled after the more-famous Vox Machina, the group was founded by former Vox Machina adventurer Taryon Darrington.

Founding

In exchange for Tary coming back home to his family in Wildemount and helping to recover the Darrington family's financial situation, Tary demanded that the family change its business model. To the common people, the Darringtons are scoundrels and awful people...now penniless awful people. Tary proposed converting the Darrington Estate into a home for the poor and headquarters for a new charitable Darrington Foundation. He also proposed creating a team of adventurers based in Wildemount: the Darrington Brigade.

The mission statement of the Darrington Brigade, according to Tary, is to: "fight for justice, win battles against evil-doers, and spread the Darrington name around the continent."

The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade

In 826 PD, after a strange object fell from the sky the previous night, Master Doolan Tversky hired the Darrington Brigade to investigate the Cyrengreen Forest and retrieve the object for her. The Darrington Brigade accomplished the mission and brought Master Tversky a strange, mutagenic crystal for the agreed-upon price of 10,000 gold.

During the apogee solstice of 843 PD the Darrington Brigade tried to help with the threats emerging across Wildemount (and probably realizing they weren't qualified for most of them).

Hubris! A Darrington Brigade One-Shot

At some point after 826 PD the Darrington Brigade was hired as the security team during the maiden voyage of the Hubris, the greatest skyship ever created. Part of the reason behind this was for Taryon to create good publicity of the cruise, but the artificer got sick right before the event, so he brought an understudy (and long time fan), Flimsy, to replace him.

For the first part of the day the Brigade did moderately good, spending some time at the casino and trying to keep "Taryon" away from situations in which he would have to speak, while Flimsy built the confidence to act like him. However, in the evening, chaos ensued: the artist hired to perform in the ballroom, Dan Coldsnap, was sabotaged, and the Darrington Brigade, trying to minimize damages, ended up messing it up even more. They arrested Dan under the excuse that he had caused the problems, but interrogating him they confirmed that someone had poisoned him, as he had heard a suspicious conversation between Aria Olari and Elias Dorn, two of the passengers. They were briefly locked inside the room where the conversation was taking place, but they got out, and convinced the owner of the skyship that, despite his sudden suspicions, Flimsy was the true Taryon Darrington. When they returned to the ballroom they found Aria and Elias, initially disguised as Taryon, waiting for them with canvases, and a battle ensued: Farriwen managed to defeat Aria, but during the fight the other enemy used his canvas to transform into a shadow dragon, identifying himself as a forgery beast (a creature able to shapeshift into the creatures of special paintings). With that knowledge, the Darrington Brigade kept fighting while also working on a painting of their own; although at one point Flimsy was almost killed, their finished their art piece, forcing the dragon to turn into an odd but less dangerous entity that they defeated. After that, and with Flimsy turning into Taryon again before anyone noticed, the Darrington Brigade was praised after saving the day.
