As it predates the nearby village of Fox Hollow, it did not sit well with the local elves when the humans chose that spot for their settlement. Such were the times however, that elves were eventually driven out of these lands.
Over time, almost all above-ground remains of the site were buried, and by 1275 it had become the target of archeologists and treasure hunters, who'd heard of pots miraculously growing from the ground. The pots naturally turned out to be buried elven remains, and the diggers fell victims to a curse, as it often happens in such places.
