- Name ysgith seems to be based on Elder Speech. Ys can mean "from below" or "downwards". Gith, given Sapkowski's hobby in linguistics, probably means some type of poisonous or medical plant, either a corncockle or black cumin. The name could hence mean "from below the corncockles".
