In original Polish edition the sentence is "Miedzianka (Coppertown) pod Tretogorem". "Pod", when used with locations, can mean either "near", "in front of" or "beneath", so it's uncertain whether Coppertown is located outside the city walls or below the city proper. Perhaps both.
