A descendant of the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons line of the Dungeons and Dragons family, this edition was developed by the Wizards of the Coast after their purchase of TSR in 1997, and published in 2000. Being a complete reimplementation of the game, third edition was a major break in compatibility with the earlier editions of Dungeons and Dragons.
