As a young boy, Naban traveled from his native isle of Almaaz to study at the Tolarian Academy at Lat-Nam.
Now an older man with hard features, he holds the rank of dean and teaches young wizards the principles of countermagic and duplication at Tolaria West.
Jhoira, Liliana, Gideon, Raff and Shanna helped Jodah and Naban to capture the Cabal agent infiltrating Tolaria West.
After the second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria, Naban devoted Tolaria West's resources to helping fight against sleeper agents and decipher the Phyrexian language.
