History
As Shaper Tishana's former apprentice, Kumena had significant prestige among the merfolk, but his beliefs and temperament could hardly have been more different from his mentor's.
He sought Orazca and aimed to wield the power of the Immortal Sun against the intruders of the Merfolk's lands. In the race for Orazca, he was the first to reach the Sanctum of the Sun. He awoke the city and the creatures within, but was bested shortly after by the combined efforts of the vampires Vona and Mavren Fein. They quickly threw him out of the window of the Tower of Triumph, but he was saved on the ground by Tishana.
Kumena survived Phyrexian invasion of Ixalan and the death of the Deeproot Tree. After the discovery of Matzalantli, Tishana summoned Kumena into the world underground and attend the tribal congress that would decide on the fate of the plane.
