Noakes was a regular at the Ivy Bush , and a friend of the Gaffer 's. He was present at his drink just before Bilbo's Farewell Party . Asking the Gaffer about Frodo Baggins , he thought that he must be more than a half a Brandybuck , openly wondering why anyone should look for a wife in Buckland . When the Gaffer mentioned that Frodo's parent's accident, Noakes mentioned he heard they went out after dinner at night and that it was Drogo Baggins' weight which sunk the boat.
