Even if she is known as the famed Pain Artist, Nin does not see herself as a torturer. She seeks to awaken a deeper consciousness within her "clients" by exploring their limits. She believes every nerve ending is a pathway to self-knowledge. Nin also sees the body as a delicate instrument, which needs to be "tuned" by the right instruments to reveal its secrets.
