I think [Lini] was born in Far Madding in a thunderstorm. She probably told the thunder to be quiet.

— Basel Gill
Basel Gill was the former innkeeper of The Queen's Blessing in Caemlyn and considers himself to be a good Queen's man.
Appearance
He is stout and on the plump side. He is pink-faced and has greying hair that he tries to comb over his bald spot. He is 50–55 years old.
History
He has an Aes Sedai in his family, Jennet Cobb. Her parents were innkeepers of The Queen's Blessing and her brother is a direct ancestor of Basel. This may explain why he has an uncommonly positive attitude towards Aes Sedai.
He was a soldier and saw action during the Aiel War.
He has known Thom Merrilin for many years, since the time when Thom was court-bard to Queen Morgase. It was this long-standing friendship that lead him to give aid to Rand al'Thor and Mat Cauthon when they arrived in Caemlyn.
Activities
Meeting Rand
His friendship with Thom Merrilin prompted him to allow Mat and Rand stay in an attic room while waiting for Moiraine Damodred and the rest of their party to reach Caemlyn.
Mat and Thom stay in The Queen's Blessing before beginning their journey to Tear. Thom asks Gill to start rumors about Lord Gaebril that will hopefully reach Morgase's ears. Gill agrees, saying that he will pretend it is one of the bad dreams he has been having. Unbeknownst to Gill, those dreams probably originated with Gaebril himself through the latter's contagious dreams.
Leaving Caemlyn
Master Gill, Lamgwin Dorn, and Breane Taborwin accompanied Queen Morgase, Lini Eltring, and Martyn Tallanvor when they fled Caemlyn. After passing through Altara, they arrived in Amador as guests of King Ailron before being taken captive by Pedron Niall in the Fortress of the Light. After the Seanchan took the fortress, he escaped along with Morgase and the rest of her party with the help of Sebban Balwer.
While traveling in Ghealdan he and his group were saved by Perrin Aybara from an attack by the Prophet's men. They then joined with Perrin's army and become attendants under Faile Bashere. Perrin recognized Gill from visiting The Queen's Blessing two years earlier.. Gill became Perrin's shambayan.
Just before the attack on the Shaido in Malden, Perrin sent him north with the rest of his force's noncombatants and supplies, intending to catch up with him afterwards. Gill's caravan was intercepted by the Children of the Light under Galad Damodred, who held them captive. He was returned to Perrin's army after Perrin's trial.
Gill finally left Perrin's camp to continue serving Morgase following the public revelation of her identity.
Vision
During Rand's confrontation with the Dark One, Basel appeared in one of the visions back in The Queen's Blessing. In the vision, the Dark One had already won the Last Battle, but had caused everyone to believe the Light had won. The Dark One also removed everyone's consciences so that they had no empathy for others, killing, robbing, and lying to others for their own gain with no remorse. In the vision, Rand runs to The Queens Blessing to escape pursuers, where he finds Gill. Gill explained that anyone who can't protect their life from others has no use for that life, so there's nothing wrong with him killing and robbing Rand. The vision ended shortly after Rand uses the One Power to tie up Gill and the three guards that were about to rob him.
