History

He was the son of Coumin, who abandoned the Way of the Leaf. He was married to Alnora and father of Willim, Adan, and Esole.

At the time within Rand's Vision, Jonai was 63 years old, and still considered in the prime of his life. He claims to feel old, though that is likely due to living through the beginning of the Breaking of the World and being required to do work he was never trained for.

In his childhood, Jonai was befriended by Someshta, and once rode on his shoulders. During the early days of the Breaking, he was present in Paaran Disen before it's destruction. There, he was charged by Solinda Sedai to take the Aiel to safety along with a number of Chora tree cuttings and angreal, sa'angreal, and ter'angreal.

Many years later, he was present when the Aiel encountered a group of Ogier and learned of the beginnings of the Longing. At this point Jonai suffered a heart attack and died, instructing Adan to keep the Covenant with his last breath. Jonai was an ancestor of Rand.
