Led by Efalin, Manderic and others with Sevanna's Shaido capture Faile and some of her entourage. Manderic takes Chiad as his gai'shain.
Manderic leads Chiad back to the Shaido camp. He carries her after she develops frostbite.
Therava and Someryn dismiss Manderic and the others when they come to inspect the new gai'shain.
Bain tells Faile to inform Gaul that Chiad has been captured by "a man with strong hands, a man whose heart is fire". He also drinks a lot.
In the battle at Malden, Gaul kills Manderic thus taking Chiad as gai'shain. Some time after the battle Faile and the others captured along her carefully burn some mementos to honour the memory of the Aiel that helped them.
