A raven behaved strangely and seemed to be observing Rand al'Thor and Mat Cauthon just before they met Moiraine Damodred. In the aftermath of the Winternight attack, Moiraine and Lan Mandragoran were confident the raven was a spy for the Dark One.
Large flocks of ravens scoured the countryside while Elyas Machera, Perrin Aybara, and Egwene al'Vere traveled cross-country towards Caemlyn, slaughtering various other mammals and birds in their path.

Trivia
Rand hoped the conventional attack on Shayol Ghul would shield him from "the Dark One's eyes," but in that case the term seemed to refer to information-gathering agents of the Shadow in general, rather than carrion-eating vermin in particular.
