Background
Thuba's title is likely inspired by The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers, or else by the play or mysterious entity of the same name referred to within. This has since become a common element of Lovecraftian horror.
Thuba Mleen is an homage to the villainous, cruel emperor of the same name in Lord Dunsany's short story, The Hashish Man (A Dreamer's Tales, vol. 1, published 1910).A Dreamer's Tales by Lord Dunsany - Free Ebook (gutenberg.org)
