Appearance
Mariya was a woman in her early fifties with mid-length, curly brown-and-gray hair. She had green eyes and wore a small pair of reading spectacles.
Personality
Mariya is a quiet woman, who seems to have coped with her violent, toxic husband by making herself quieter, smaller, and out of the way. She enjoys reading, and used it as an escape during Taryon's absence. She has little attachment to the wealth and lifestyle they used to live in, and values the family over such things. She is a dutiful wife and mother, fulfilling what is expected of her without complaint. She dotes on her son, Taryon.
" The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade " (Sx49)
Mariya was present when the Darrington Brigade went in search of the mysterious object that fell from the heavens, serving the dinner and supporting her son, although neither Howaart nor Maryanne were mentioned.
" The Chapter Closes " (1x115)
Years after Vox Machina's defeat of Vecna, Mariya died of old age.
Taryon Darrington
Tary is Mariya's oldest child, and she shares his love of reading. He empathizes with her emotional struggles that she faces living in such a toxic family environment, and she supports him with his endeavors. While there seems to be little support in the household in general, Mariya seems to be a constant beacon of it for her son. She also seems to be the only one of Taryon's family members not upset in any way that he refused to marry Lydia/is gay in general. She is a loving mother who dotes on her child.
