Iva Deshin

Description

In 835 PD, Iva was in her 40s. She had wild and curly mousey brown hair that went past her shoulders, and wore a heavy sweater and big glasses. Eight years later, her appearance hadn't changed greatly.

When Caleb, Beau, and Jester visited Chastity's Nook, Iva Deshin introduced herself and offered her assistance. Amused at Caleb's claim that the Nook was "recommended" to him for literature, Iva quickly guided the trio to the adults-only back room of the shop. Caleb declined her enthusiastic recommendations of Tusk Love and Guard of My Heart, asking instead for something more along the lines of "historical fiction." Intrigued, Iva described a book that was banned by the Dwendalian Empire 15 years prior, entitled Courting of the Crick. After a furtive discussion of the contents of the tome and the rather hefty 15-gold price tag, she disappeared into another room to retrieve a copy. Ultimately, Caleb declined to purchase the book, citing the price tag and illicit nature of the book. However, Jester secretly purchased a copy of Tusk Love as a gift. After the sale, Iva proceeded to share with Beau some of her own romantic writings, which were overly wordy, with atrocious dialogue and some bizarre metaphors for farm equipment; it took a supreme effort for Beau to humor Iva with a smile and series of mild compliments.

The Chronicles of Exandria - The Mighty Nein Part Two

Weeks later, when Iva found a magic hat in the lost-and-found box of Chastity's Nook, she decided to leave Zadash and travel to Nicodranas in search of the Mighty Nein, whom she had heard were headed there. By the time she reached the city, however, the party had already left on their stolen ship, and Iva spent some time there simply enjoying herself. Iva missed the party when they briefly passed through the city again on their way back north to the Dwendalian Empire, but visited Yussa Errenis and learned they were headed to Felderwin. She followed them into Xhorhas, entering through the Ashguard Garrison, and traveling first to Asarius and then to Rosohna. She spoke with the giant Soorna, the Overcrow Apothecary owner Maruo, and became friends with the blacksmith Wursh, catching up on the group's activities and then following them to Bazzoxan before deciding to return home to Zadash. On the way there, she received a Sending from Yussa, encouraging her to continue her pursuit. At Kravaraad, Tyla Dust sent her on to Uthodurn where Iva spoke to Deilin and then returned to the Empire and to Rexxentrum in search of information about Caleb Widogast. Soon afterward, she returned to Nicodranas and met with Yussa again, who was still badly shaken by his misadventures in the Happy Fun Ball. She spoke briefly with Orly Skiffback, then went back to Rexxentrum where Pumat Sol told her about the party's defeat of Jourrael, and she learned of the group's role in the defeat of Obann and in possible peace negotiations in the War of Ash and Light. Iva then pieced together the details of both Caleb's and Beau's pasts, traveling to Blumenthal and Kamordah. When Iva returned to Nicodranas to share more information with Yussa, he passed on to her an invitation to the party taking place at the Marquis's home, where she finally caught up to the Mighty Nein and surreptitiously tailed them to the Balleater and overheard their interview with the disguised Essek. Yussa's magic later allowed them to observe the attack on Fjord and, horrified, Iva decided to abandon her pursuit and returned to her home in Zadash.

Campaign Three: Bells Hells

Bells Hells visited the shop after the Apogee Solstice of 843 PD in the company of a disguised Essek Thelyss. Caleb Widogast had told Essek that he could find Astrid Becke there. When Essek asked Iva if she had any other employees, she sent them to the back room to speak to "Erma". When the adventurers were leaving, Iva briefly checked that her employee was all right, then spoke with the group for a bit making recommendations, which led to Fearne Calloway purchasing a copy of Tusk Love and a copy of erotic illustrations that were allegedly unique (although Iva took out an identical tome the moment they left). Iva asked the group to check on her friend, Yussa Errenis, if they traveled to the Menagerie Coast, since they had been pen pals for years but he had stopped responding to her letter a few months ago.

In 843 PD, Iva and Yussa had been "pen pals" for a while, but after he stopped writing for two months she started to get concerned, and asked Bells Hells to check on the wizard if they ever visited Nicodranas.
