Timpani Guff

Appearance

Timpani is a robust firbolg man, with skin covered with bluish hair, red-headed, and with a lush mustache of the same color. He has gained weight in the last century, and in the recent battles he has lost a couple of teeth.

Personality

He is a cheerful man, bumbling and sincere, and described as a "crackpot", with a certain sense of spectacle.

Background

Timpani came from the Dwendalian Empire, but he traveled to Vasselheim and tried to join the Slayer's Take at some point before 636 PD, failing because he didn't have the right skills. He tried multiple times, unsuccessfully, with the last attempt being around 739 PD, period during which he visited Shoresight Isle when he was still "in school" and with ties with the guild; there he befriended Duderonomous. After returning to Issylra and being rejected again, he chose to live a life of isolation, traveling to many places, although keeping an apartment in Vasselheim where he was occasionally joined by hia cousin Pumat Sol, who visited last around 829 PD. He, however, ended up noticing strange phenomena involving monsters once defeated by the guild, so he started taking notes about the subject to show it to them, although he wasn't believed, making him suspect they knew something and were covering it. He met Gurt Stumpstuck during this time, and together they designed a magical way to access the dwarf's bog, using a specific tree with a special password, and protecting it against non-magical damage. At one point, while traveling through the Utesspire Mountains, he met Poogs, a goblin who had ran away from his community; although the latter tried to steal from him, Timpani showed him only kindness, which caused the Curse of Strife to be lifted. Very thankful, Poogs gave him a cupcake, and they became friends.

At some point during his travels Timpani met the Apex Eidolon of the Demithore Valley, although it was from a distance, and he didn't try to get closer.

" The Carnivorous Cube " (RTx01)

Around 839 PD, one year after meeting Poogs, he went to Himblewood with him to meet potential recruits for the Slayer's Take, and made a presentation describing the qualities appreciated in the guild, while noticing the promise in some of the candidates present. He ignored potential recruits that didn't seem remarkable enough (such as Derek, an accountant), and ended up calling four of them (Frog, Farah Vallari, Idrin Shadowstep, and Heera Agneheart) to the stage; there he showed them a capture gelatinous cube as an example of the beasts they would have to slay. However, he tripped, hit the glass, and the ooze broke free.

While Timpani was hiding the four candidates defeated the monster, and although some of them were annoyed at the firbolg for not joining the battle, he acted as he had planned the fight itself as a test, congratulating them as the new members of the Slayer's Take, and telling them to look for him at dusk for their first job. At the end of the day, the group met him and Poogs in the forest, and Timpani decided to share with them a ghost story that was popular in the guild; his intention was to spook the new members, so when a terrifying sound was heard, Timpani assumed Poogs was helping him with sound effects. When they realized that wasn't the case, and noticed strange lights and an avalanche, they started running.

" The Bog House " (RTx02)

Timpani fell behind but managed to get to safety before being buried by snow. Shortly after, when four snowmen were heard approaching, the group hid, but when Timpani told them that the monsters' shiny backs were their weak point, he encouraged the adventurers to face them; during the battle the firbolg cast Cure Wounds on Farah. After the fight, when some roots dragged Poogs away, and although Timpani got distracted reflecting on how unfortunate his friend was, the others started going after the goblin, and the firbolg followed them.

When they found a dome made of green glowing energy, they tried to understand what it was and how to pass through it. It was then when Timpani told them the truth: he wasn't an actual member of the Slayer's Take, but a failed recruit who had been studying strange phenomena in the forest for a long time; he was convinced that the story he told them about Putridius Festerkin containsed some truth, and that somehow the dark druid was bringing back old monsters slayed by his former guild. With the desire of rescuing Poogs and the possibility of using this mission to actually join the Slayer's Take, the four adventurers agreed to help Timpani; Heera in particular was very impressed by the firbolg's resourcefulness. Idrin, who had been casting Unseen Servant as a ritual, tried to send it to the barrier, and Timpani got frustrated, claiming he had already tried that spell without success; this led the wizard to suggest that maybe the druid wasn't very good at magic, and called him ridiculous. Timpani thought for a while, and suddenly, moved by a sudden inspiration, he revealed a druidic rune under the snow symbolizing a secret entrance, after which he led his friends to a nearby willow tree and performed a ritual (knocking twice on the trunk, circling it six times, elbowing the center of it and touching with a muddy hand a knot that glows gold), opening a door to a bog.

Timpani brought them to the hut where Gurt Stumpstuck lived, expecting the dwarf to give them some advice, but he instead identified the adventurers as the "chosen ones" in a prophecy, and gave them the legendary weapons of the Spectral Hand to fight undead threats. The firbolg then thanked Gurt, and told him not to be a stranger, but when the dwarf started talking about Timpani helping fix his swamp, the group left in a hurry. They returned to the green dome, and with their new magic items they were able to pass through, along with Timpani.

" The Frozen Puppet " (RTx03)

Timpani and his friends appeared in the middle of a blizzard in a tundra, and they looked for Poogs until they found him in a cavern that they recognized as the old lair of Rimefang, a dragon defeated by Vox Machina and the Slayer's Take. There, they had to fight the dragon's skeleton, puppeteered by marionette vines, and Timpani helped by using his healing magic on the adventurers, and joining forces with Poogs to free Farah the two times that the enemy's attacks left her trapped. The druid managed to keep his team alive until they defeated the marionettes, and when they found a box with many earrings inside, Timpani's loud voice helped them discover that they were communication devices.

After that, Timpani decided they could try to use that encounter with Rimefang to prove the Slayer's Take what was happening in the region, so they started making their way back to Himblewood, dragging with them the dragon's skull. The druid used a blue jay to send a message, and shortly after a cardinal returned with the answer. Following the instructions, Timpani and his team met with two members of the guild, and he tried to explain what had happened, but he wasn't believed, as members of the Slayer's Take didn't like him much, and considered him a bad company; not even the adventurers' support convinced them, so the members of the Slayer's Take left.

Both Poogs and Idrin told him that part of the reason why people didn't trust him was that he had been lying during his activities, and the druid promised to be more honest in the future. When Timpani stated his desire of unveiling the truth and helping people, Poogs immediately went with him, being followed shortly after by the other adventurers. The following day they settled into an apartment on the outskirts of Vasselheim, where the firbolg had a big map of the area with several marks.

" The Voiceless Village " (RTx04)

Timpani proposed a first mission for his new team: a couple of days before meeting them, he had talked to a deaf tabaxi that had been ignored by the Slayer's Take, since the story they brought to the guild (how their companions had been abducted by a strange fog in a swamp) didn't interest them. The younger adventurers agreed with the firbolg, and he told them to prepare for the rescue mission, allowing them to take anything from his very chaotic apartment; at one point Heera, who had been trying to tidy it up a little, heard him say they had finally found his good chair, causing her to be discouraged. When Poogs brought them cupcakes made with his own sweat, the druid ate them without a worry, since he was used to the flavor.

Casting Transport via Plants, he brought them to the swamp the tabaxi had told him about, but they appeared in quicksand. He tried to free Poogs first, since he was the shortest, but he failed so Frog had to help him; eventually, they all managed to reach solid ground following Farah's advice. When they reached Josgren's Hollow, the village where the tabaxi and their companions were traveling to, they found it very deteriorated, and with the villagers obsessed with avoiding loud noises. While they were there, Frog theorized that the strange mold growing everywhere might isolate the sound from inside the houses; Timpani, curious about that possibility, started loudly stomping wherever he saw mold, and the neighbors told him to be quiet. Shorly after, Igor from the Slayer's Take appeared and started shouting at them, but that sound did attract the attention of the strange fog they were looking for: the whispers.

" The Whispers " (RTx05)

During the fight against the whispers Timpani and Poogs ended up in quicksand again, and the firbolg, trying to get free, sank even faster, so when the battle was over the rest of his friends had to hurry because he was already under the surface. After he was rescued he noticed that Farah had been poisoned by the fog, so he used Lesser Restoration to help her. After that a local politician, Vaughn Josgren Jr, told them to take someone they had in the local prison (because he had been warning them about the whispers and they hadn't believe him) and use him to fight the local ghosts, offering them money as an incentive. Timpani pretended the money was a gift, but when Heera told him that Vaughn wasn't a good person and they should deal with him, the druid reminded the group that their priority was to fight ghosts, although he agreed to take some action against the politician later.

In order to allow Heera to enter the prison, Timpani and Farah pretended to have a fight. He, however, kept mentioning her age, not realizing that was irritating the half-elf, which led to her taking the distraction way more seriously and hitting him several times, causing him to lose a tooth; when he asked why she had kept hitting him, even when the guards weren't looking, she told him she wanted to keep it authentic, and the firbolg believed her. When the prisoner was finally rescued, Timpani was very surprised, recognizing his friend Janet the goliath, who was very glad to see him too. Timpani complimented his friend's appearance, after which he asked him if he could guide them to his caravan.

" The Hungry Cloud " (RTx06)

While traveling through the marsh Poogs asked Timpani if he had had other adventuring companions before him (referring to Janet), and the firbolg confirmed he had. When they were in the bard's caravan he offered Timpani his bass, "Old Salty", and when the druid tried to play it he broke the strings, so a very frustrated Idrin had to Mend them, allowing Timpani to play a very decent melody. When they reached the lair of the whispers, where their leader (the whispering mouther) resided, the adventurers started destroying the mushrooms that produced the spores the ghosts used to form a body, and Janet started playing a song as a distraction, attracting the attention of the biggest enemy. To help his friend Timpani healed him and Poogs wrapped a rope around him just in case; this was useful when the whispering mouther engulfed Janet, knocking him unconscious for a few moments (until Timpani's Healing Word) while the goblin dragged him to safety. After that, Janet resumed playing his song, this time protected by Heera and completely healed thanks to Timpani, who used Mass Cure Wounds on him, Idrin, and Heera, and shortly after, the wizard put an end to the battle by destroying the whispering mouther with a Lightning Bolt. After Poogs confirmed that the people kidnapped by the whispers were still alive Timpani went with them to heal them.

Later, when they were celebrating back in Josgren's Hollow, Timpani told Poogs that he was his best friend, and gave him a harmonica, which Poogs loved. As they were leaving the village with the rescued Igor, the wereboar told them he would make sure the Slayer's Take wouldn't bother them, and when he showed some hesitation about the quality of their own group name, Timpani assured it was a good one. Shortly after, a seagull arrived, informing the druid that they had a new job, so they started making their way back to Vasselheim to prepare, and arguing if they should go to Timpani's apartment or visit actually decent shops in the city.

" The Monster in the Mirror " (RTx07)

On their next mission the Re-Slayers went to Shoresight Isle with Timpani's Transport via Plants spell, but appeared on the edge of a cliff and fell, since they were all tied to each other and Timpani was heavy; luckily, they were able to catch themselves in time and climb back up, in the firbolg helping Poogs. After that, Frog complained about the incident and Timpani explained that in her last visit to the island the oak they had crossed through wasn't that close to the sea. They went to the lighthouse, where they met Timpani's old friend, Duderonomous, who, after some effort, remembered that he had been the one sending the seagull to the druid, whom he hadn't seen for 86 years. They all went together to the local inn, where, while Duddy was trying to explain to them an old case of the Slayer's Take in the village, the customers attacked the group, controlled by some sort of invisible ghost tentacles.

In order to deal with the villagers without killing them, Timpani cast Enhance Ability on Frog, making her more charismatic, and suggesting her to talk to one of the men there and remind him of his actual personality as an art enthusiast (which ended up working); after that the druid decided to keep supporting his team and cast Guidance on Idrin as an encouragement. After all the villagers fell unconscious, the undead entity attacked Frog and tried to drag her inside a puddle of ale, but Timpani and her friends grabbed her in time and saved her. After that they returned to the lighthouse, and suddenly Duddy's eyes started glowing, as he called the building his house, with a voice that wasn't his own.

" The Lost Light " (RTx08)

Duderonomous, under the control of the entity (the ghost of an aboleth), caused the lighthouse itself to deform, and its shadows to move, and Timpani realized that the entire place was enchanted with the Magnificent Mansion spell. However, before he could do anything, he and Poogs were sent through a doorway that then disappeared, leaving them trapped for a while, dealing with visions and other illusory harmful manipulations. Eventually, all the Re-Slayers were able to return to the same place in the actual lighthouse, but Timpani, shaken by what he had experienced, didn't say much, focusing instead on healing Frog with Cure Wounds.

When they heard Duderonomous upstairs, they went to help him, and with some effort (which involved Idrin casting Light to make the lighthouse work again) they managed to scare away the ghost. Timpani then examined his friend, who was still confused and with translucent skin, although aware of who the firbolg was. Timpani, when looking at the mage's back, discovered a message with instructions, and after they followed them, they were able to restore Duderonomous's memories.

" The Dark Well " (RTx09)

Before they followed the aboleth Timpani healed Duderonomous (restoring his skintone) and cast Cure Wounds on Frog, humoring Idrin and pretending he didn't need healing even though he obviously did. After that they went to the well where the ghost was hiding, and Poogs and the druid told each other to be careful before going in. In order to bait the aboleth, Timpani gave its skull to Farah so that she could talk to it more persuasively. When the monster started chasing them outside the well it knocked Farah unconscious, and after Heera called Timpani, the firbolg, using Spider Climb, went in again and used his Healing Spirit (in the form of a starfish) to help the fallen blood hunter, also using a Healing Word for Heera before she left to fight their enemy. After Farah was recovered, they went outside, where the aboleth had been defeated. Timpani congratulated his friends and healed them all, after which they went to the sea cave to close a portal the ghost had been using. The druid assured them that he could handle it alone, and started the process; however, when he was almost done, a voice complained about his meddling, and a spectral black finger attacked Timpani, leaving him confused and unfocused, talking nonsense.

After Idrin determined that was likely a magical disease they tried to bring the firbolg to Duderonomous, but he used his Hidden Step to walk away, still confused, running towards a tree and casting Transport via Plants. His friends ran after him and crossed the portal in time, appearing in the Utesspire Mountains. Recognizing the area, Poogs agreed to bring Timpani to his old home to help him.

" The Curse of Strife (episode) " (RTx10)

The group traveled through the mountains keeping the still confused Timpani tied to Frog with a rope, so he wouldn't walk away again. At one point, when they were entering a dark tunnel, Poogs asked for light and the firbolg lifted a rock; however, when Idrin cast Light on the item, Timpani decided to throw it away, but his goblin friend took it.

When they arrived to Hug Hive, Poogs' now reformed settlement, they were greeted by Freedom Windsong, a doctor and friend of the younger goblin who agreed to examine Timpani; based on the symptoms, he determined the firbolg suffered from mindfire, an effect of the Contagion spell, and left him with his assistants, assuring the group that with a few hours and the proper ritual, Timpani would be healed. When they checked on him, shortly after, Timpani was wrapped in glowing moss.

" The Rotten Soldiers " (RTx11)

Timpani was under freedom's care while Hug Hive was attacked by an undead army. The goblin doctor stayed with him to heal him as soon as possible, refusing to leave even as monster got closer to their hiding place. However, the Re-Slayers successfully stopped the attack, and shortly after the Timberblight left, Timpani appeared, completely healed and ready to fight.

" The Timberblight of Dead Man's Table " (RTx12)

After saying goodbye to Freedom and his people, Timpani and his friends used miniature horses to return to the tree that had brought them to the Utesspire Mountains, and the firbolg confirmed that even though he knew how to reach their destination, he couldn't bring them there directly, since Dead Man's Table was barren after the ritual Putridius performed there. After telling his mount Thunderhoove to guide the other horses back home, and after thanking the Re-Slayers for helping him, he cast Travel via Plants to the Vesper Timberland, arriving through a tree near Dead Man's Table; when they reached the top Putridius was already waiting for them. A battle ensued, and Timpani focused on supporting the other adventurers, casting Barkskin on Idrin and using Cure Wounds to heal an unconscious Heera (although being attacked by the Timberblight with Mind Sliver as he was doing so). After Farah caused an elk stampede Timpani got inspired by them and cast Healing Spirit, which appeared as a calf abandoning the group to approach and heal an unconscious Frog, who defeated Putridius as she was taking the unconscious Poogs away from him.

Timpani woke the goblin up with Mass Cure Wounds, healing the rest of the party in the process, and Poogs told him that maybe their new deed would convince the Slayer's Take to accept them; the firbolg, however, declared they had a team of their own already. After a brief celebration Poogs suggested to go back to Himblewood to rest, and although Timpani told him he was still a good stab squire, the goblin decided to leave his knife in the plateau, declaring he was done with it. As they were making their way to the town, they were stopped by people of the Slayer's Take led by Heldwell, very ready to kill them, and telling Timpani he should have stayed as a nobody; however, one of them, Sweeny (a gnome), saved them by teleporting them to a bakery where Kashaw Vesh told the group Osysa wanted to speak with them.

" The Cat's Cathedral " (RT2x01)

Timpani was very excited about seeing Kashaw, telling him about a time they met in the street, and relaxing only when Farah told him to be cool. The firbolg them started sharing the story of how the Re-Slayer's Take had met, admitting he had lied to make it happen, although Kash assured him he wasn't judging them for it. When they arrived to Osysa's lair Timpani, excited and confused, admitted that he didn't know anything about sphinxes, so he was surprised to learn that she was a "cat lady", but then Osysa Silenced him, declaring he had finally found a group worthy of him. Shortly after she isolated each member of the group with darkness and illusions, and presumably tested the druid in some way, before releasing them all. Idrin, who was very affected by his own test, crossed a portal to Xhorhas.

After returning to Timpani's house, Kash told them that the Slayer's Take would give them better headquarters, but left when Heera told him that they were having a moment dealing with the departure of their friend. After speaking for a bit, and remembering how Poogs and Timpani had met, the latter opened the door and checked his mail, finding a letter from his cousin, Pumat Sol, accompanied by some money. He then declared that the Re-Slayers should go shopping.

" The Masked Man " (RT2x02)

The next morning, after sleeping for the first time in the new headquarters, Timpani combed his hair and fixed his outfit a little and told the rest of the team to go outside. There he took out the envelope that his cousin had sent him and through an extradimensional space he extracted 100 gold pieces for each one, encouraging them to go shopping and meet at mealtime. When Poogs hinted that the firbolg was going on a date, he refused to explain. The rest of the Re-Slayers followed him, and although at first he did not see it as suspicious to see Farah near a garbage can (interpreting that she was looking for food) when he saw the rest of the group he became irritated and asked them for privacy, using his Hidden Step to leave them behind.

Later, when the group gathered, Timpani appeared covered in soil and pieces of pottery, and constantly looking back, embarrassed. He just told his friends that he didn't want to talk about it, and they left together.

" The Dire Descent " (RT2x03)

After Frog told them about a potential mission to retrieve her missing pieces, the group agreed to go. Farah expressed some concern about Timpani's ability to bring them to the Spectrum Gorge, but he defended himself by saying that teleporting magic was complicated, but he actually knew their destination. Sure enough, an hour later he brought them there using Transport via Plants, but right after he commented how nice it was to arrive to a place without the threat of a scary ghost nearby, a landslide happened and they were attacked by a magma landshark controlled by marionettes; the druid tried to help his friends casting Wall of Stone twice, although it still caused chaos and some of them fell either way. Shortly after a mechanical bat appeared and Timpani made the group follow it, and when the monster reached Frog and knocked her unconscious, it was him who rescued her from the undead vines, casting Cure Wounds to wake her up inside the building of a mining company.

There they met a Disguised man who, after revealing his true appearance, introduced himself as Xella. Timpani, noticing how peculiar he was, asked if his magic was fey in origin, and the other man confirmed it, explaining he had a connection with a hag, to which the firbolg responded by telling his friends that Xella wasn't bad, just spooky. When Poogs guessed that the undead landshark attack had been caused by the Timberblight, Timpani admitted that Osysa had insinuated to him that Putridius wasn't truly gone, but her explanation and rhymes had been confusing so he didn't understand it at first. Shortly after he noticed the presence of an underground river beneath them, and the Re-Slayers decided that they would defeat the monster if Xella helped them. After some preparation at a workshop (during which Timpani expressed his confusion at the amount of new things his team brought with them), they descended through the tunnels guided by Xella, but there they discovered that the current that was supposed to keep the magma landshark away was hampered by fungal growth.

" The Monstrous Mine " (RT2x04)

When the adventurers were considering how to deal with the fungus Timpani confirmed to Heera that, like Osysa had said, the substance seemed to be a mycelium-like extension of the Timberblight, but he wasn't sure if it was a remnant of the defeated dark druid or a sign of him not being truly gone. When Xella asked, the firbolg told him that magic worked against the fungus, but still recomended to leave the mines. They ended up staying to try to restore the river, and Timpani, as a precaution, cast Fog Cloud so that Frog and Xella could try without being seen. When the landshark finally appeared they started fighting it, aiming for the marionette bulbs Timpani located outside its body, and he stayed nearby to help the other adventurers, healing Xella when he got burned by the monster's lava, and using Healing Word to help Heera after she fell to the ground. Although the druid got also hurt by the lava, the monster was defeated shortly after, and its victim, Sasha, was released. Timpani tried to heal her but it didn't work; when Frog revealed that the victim was under the effects of a Contagion spell, Timpani used Lesser Restoration to put an end to it, allowing her to wake up.

After they left the mines Timpani was still somewhat suspicious about his team's new abilities and acquisitions, and even though Xella recommended them all to be honest with each other, the Re-Slayers declared there were no secrets between them.

" The Befuddled Bravehearts " (RT2x05)

The next morning, on the way to Seedfeld, Timpani went ahead to explore a little until Poogs came to look for him, after which he informed the rest of the group that they were close to reaching their destination. When the goblin mentioned that the rest of the team had offered to train him so he could be more involved in combat, the firbolg wasn't happy about it, since he thought Poogs didn't want to be involved in violent situations; he argued that the other three adventurers should be enough to deal with their enemies, but Farah argued that they had almost died in the last battle. Since the conversation was getting tense, they agreed to continue later.

When they arrived to Seedfeld they were attacked by aggressive wind gibbons, and although Timpani didn't like them at all, Heera encouraged him to speak to their leader. The druid appealed to the gibbon's vanity, and convinced it to let them leave in exchange for a bribe; since he had no money left, it was Frog who provided the gold. They entered the village and found it mostly empty, with the exception of some gnomes, of which only one, Norbert Klott, was able to fight. He was ready to attack them until Timpani introduced them as the Re-Slayer's Take, causing Norbert to think they were associated with the Slayer's Take. The gnome told them that he was taking care of the local heroes, the Mega Magic Paladins, who had become incapacitated after trying to solve the mystery of the yellow cloud blocking the sun over their town. After Frog determined it was some sort of affliction in their brains, or even a curse, Timpani tried to heal one of them with Lesser Restoration, but it didn't work. He then suggested that Poogs could stay taking care of the warriors so that Norbert could act as a guide for the rest of the group, and although the goblin didn't like the idea at first, when the gnome told him he saw great promise in him, he agreed. Poogs asked his friends not to return to the village like the paladins (in a trance, unable to do anything), and Timpani replied that if that were to be the case, he wouldn't want any other caretaker.

When they reached the mountain known as Oogleberg, they started climbing using a rock, but when Heera was attacked by cave fishers Timpani Enhanced Frog's dexterity so that she could reach their friend faster to help her. Then he and Norbert climbed too to help them, and together they reached to the cave that was their destination. Since Heera was hurt, Farah insisted that they take a break before entering, and Timpani agreed, casting Create Bonfire.

" The Confounding Cavern " (RT2x06)

Timpani used sap, vines, and Cure Wounds to re-attach Heera's horn tip to her head, although he told her that the fix wasn't permanent, since his healing magic tended to work in a general way, not correcting specific features; when the tiefling expressed her anger towards the creatures of the mountain Timpani tried to calm her down, but she declared she intended to find the cave fisher that had made her fall, and eat it. After some rest and preparation they entered the cave, just to reappear outside with some injuries but no memories; Timpani cast Mass Cure Wounds, and wanting to keep his friends safe, he joined Heera and Farah when they went inside again, while Frog and Norbert waited outside, holding a rope tied to them. However, the druid was left alone when Heera and Farah reappeared outside once more.

Heera contacted him with the magical earrings, and he talked to her very alarmed for a few seconds before the communication was suddenly cut. He used Mold Earth to leave some directions for the other adventurers in the ground, and thanks to that they reached a chamber in which they found a very alarmed and weakened Timpani coming out of a portal, followed by yellow gas that reanimated and the skeleton of Ügel.

" The Promised Pact " (RT2x07)

Norbert insisted that Timpani take the blue dagger, and he, after some hesitation, took it, after which he used Healing Word to help Farah, who had been attacked by the troll. Noticing the monster was dealing with a lot of damage, the druid summoned a Healing Spirit in the form of a mole, and by striking a pose activated his new magical dagger, whose light protected him from the necrotic energy of the lair. However, when Ügel attacked most of the group with a blast of poisonous gas, Timpani was affected, losing concentration of his Healing Spirit and getting his mind clouded, as he remembered the time he brought the Re-Slayers to his house in Vasselheim. However, when Heera called for the Strife Emperor's help and otherworldly chains moved Timpani and his friends away from danger, the firbolg regained control and cast Mass Cure Wounds on the entire group, as the tiefling destroyed the undead troll.

Shortly after Grimm Heldwell became visible in the reflective walls of the chamber, mocking the Re-Slayers and questioning their morality. Farah got angry and tried to break the walls, and Timpani tried to turn them opaque with Mold Earth, but that caused the wizard to tease him, telling him he couldn't hide from him even if be tried. Norbert, however, encouraged the adventurers, and together used the power of the daggers to destroy the lair and get out of the cave as the mountain collapsed, with Timpani carrying the sleepy Heera over his shoulder.

" The Melancholic March " (RT2x08)

When they left the mountain Timpani carried the exhausted Heera, who fell asleep on their way to Seedfeld. Back in the town they reunited with Poogs, and by observing how he behaved around the now more relaxed wind gibbons, and by listening to the creatures themselves, the firbolg realized his friend had acted as a ball for them, being thrown around until they calmed down. After they returned the daggers to the paladins Annika the Yellow asked them about Norbert's performance, and both Timpani and Frog complimented the gnome, contributing to his promotion among the Mega Magic Paladins.

The next morning they left Seedfeld following Frog's compass, and Timpani carried Heera again, this time using a wagon; Farah jumped on it too, but made herself lighter with her Graviturgy Boots, so the druid thanked her. While they approached the Utesspire Mountains Timpani and Poogs remembered they were near the area were they first met, and tried to apologize to each other for their most recent argument; Timpani ended up agreeing to teach Poogs some stuff to be more useful in the battlefield, as long as he kept his promise of not stabbing people ever again. Later, when Heera expressed concern about the fact that Heldwell had Gurt's lantern, Timpani agreed to go check on his friend and return the next day. He used Transport via Plants to go to the Vesper Timberlands, but ended up returning that same night after learning the tree used to access Gurt's bog had been burned, making it useless; when Farah criticized that they had limited access to the place to a single tree, the firbolg defended himself by explaining that they had protected and hidden said willow against non-magical threats, although this caused the blood hunter to point out that the Timberblight was a druid like him. Following Poogs's advice, Timpani used an owl to cast Animal Messenger and send a message to his friend, with the rest of the Re-Slayers telling him how to use the limited number of words for the spell; when the bird left he pointed out it would take it a while to return. Later he expressed concern about Heera's aggressive attidue, which led her to share her thoughts about their vulnerable position now that Heldwell was an ally of the Timberblight; when Poogs suggested to finish their current task and return to Vasselheim to ask the Slayer's Take for advice, Farah said she didn't trust them and that no one did things without expecting something in return, but Timpani argued that during his long life he had learned that kindness should be appreciated whenever it is found; he also mentioned that just like Heera's, the rhymes Osysa had shared with him had become real.

" The Restless Retreat " (RT2x09)

After a small surprise when they found a swarm of eidolon ghosts in the area, the adventurers went to bed, and Poogs stayed awake alone for the first watch, since Timpani fell asleep and stayed like that all night. In the morning, when they woke up, Poogs suggested Goodberry pancakes for breakfast, and him and Timpani made them together, with the firbolg casting the needed spell and gathering the berries with his filthy shirt; later, while they were eating, Heera took one of his pancakes with the excuse that she needed to recover her energy, but she was watching him all the time. When the rest of the group assumed that the tiefling had noticed Timpani manipulating the food with his dirty shirt, he apologized, but still got confused when Heera kept watching him closely, even while they were moving the wagon.

They continued advancing through the mountain pass until they came across a large nest with four eggs; Timpani identified it as a roc nest, and tried to explain what it was to both Poogs and Frog, who were slightly confused because of the name. The druid was very concerned, since he suspected the mother roc was near, and got very alarmed when Heera approached one of the hatching eggs, telling her that they couldn't keep it; it was then when the mother flew down, furious, and Heera left the firbolg with the egg. Farah tried to knock the monster unconscious with her sleepy cupcakes, but smashed the food on its chest instead of the beak; however, when the roc grabbed Timpani with a claw Poogs approached and managed to push some of the cupcake inside its mouth, causing it to fall asleep. Timpani got free, and feeling guilty, fed some Goodberries to the roc hatchling, talking to it and trying to express he and his group had good intentions; after making sure the young creature and its siblings could reach the food their mother had brought them, the druid left them some more Goodberries and walked away. As they were leaving the area Heera started weeping because of the stress, and the group comforted her; they ended up hugging, and Timpani made sure that Farah was the center of it, since initially the old monster hunter didn't want to participate. He also assured Heera that regardless of what she thought, he was a simple man without hidden motivations, but she didn't seem completely convinced. They kept moving, and when they heard some detonations in the distance, they went in that direction. When they reached a certain point on the mountain the temperature dropped so much that Timpani lent Poogs his coat, asking him not to touch the pockets; after a while they came to a valley with a solitary cabin and a sign that threatened trespassers, saying they would be thrown off the top of the mountain.

" The Hermit's Hill " (RT2x10)

When they started climbing the stairs they soon discovered that there were hidden traps when Timpani touched the first step, which activated a Snare spell. Heera freed him, and when they kept walking, at the very end Frog activated another trap, and both Timpani and Poogs were very alarmed when she fell down the stairs, getting very hurt. When they finally reached the cabin the Aeormaton was still weak and dazed, and at Farah's insistence, Timpani cast Cure Wounds on her. There they met Professor Alexander Parade, an eccentric dwarf who was doing research in the valley with local resources, and searching for lost Aeorian technology; Farah and Timpani noticed that one of his eyes moved oddly, and the dwarf simply took it out and asked them to point with it to the stairs; they confirmed a bunch of twig creatures were approaching, so they defended the cabin. Later Poogs expressed curiosity about the professor's sources, and he was told to go out with a bag full of black powder. Poogs obeyed and Timpani Enhanced his Strength to make the task easier, but the next time he checked on him he had fallen, and was covered in the substance he was transporting.

" The Terrible Twigmen " (RT2x11)

Alexander told Timpani to carry more black powder, and after getting Poogs, they all went together to a crater where the professor showed them how to use the dark substance; Timpani was somewhat concerned about the impact in the environment, but when Alexander asked him to help, he prepared the powder, with which they caused a great explosion. Shortly after a twigman appeared and stole Frog's screwdriver, so they went to their lair; on their way there Heera wondered if the dwarf's actions and their damage to nature were the actual cause for the twigmen's weird behavior, and Timpani rejoiced knowing the tiefling was worried about the environment like him. When they arrived to the area where the twigmen lived the druid cast Speak with Plants on a pine tree to ask about that place, and it told them that those creatures had been created by a hag; then, since the spell lasted for 10 minutes, the tree was left conscious to speak with them as it wished, and it even warned them when the twigmen came out to look at them. Alexander told Timpani to approach their lair and use the black powder against them, encouraging him to use a great amount of it; Heera talked to him and gave him a candle so that he wouldn't have to light the powder near it, and using it, the firbolg approached stealthily and lit the candle with Druidcraft before running away. The powder caused a great detonation that angered the twigmen.

" The Hexed Hive " (RT2x12)

When the battle started and Timpani saw that his friends were struggling against their many enemies, he cast Faerie Fire, surrounding the twigmen with fireflies to make them easier to hit; when he and Farah were surrounded by the wooden creatures he Conjured eight beavers that defended the Re-Slayers. After Frog disappeared inside the crater Timpani and Alexander approached, and the latter threw his artificial eye inside, informing that the monk was ok (although shorter than usual), fighting against a big twigman; Timpani encouraged the professor to go in first, knowing his own body would make him slower in a narrow space, and indeed, while the dwarf was defeating the enemy the firbolg got stuck, and Poogs had to help him. When the group reached Frog they saw a potion had reanimated her as a smaller version of herself, and Timpani was horrified when he saw the Aeormaton's former body turning into dust.

After they recovered Douglas's heart piece and Frog's screwdriver they returned to Alexander's cabin, where he fixed his robotic dog. After a brief period of celebration the Re-Slayer's Take informed him that they had to leave, and the professor declined the offer of joining them; Timpani, however, added that he would be welcome if he ever wanted to visit them in Vasselheim. After Farah asked for some black powder Alexander sent the druid to the cabin to get it, but it took him a while, due to the many traps in the stairs; when Timpani finally returned with the substance they said goodbye to the professor and he and his friends left with their wagon.

" The Decomposing Domicile " (RT2x13)

After returning to Vasselheim, the Re-Slayer's Take spent a couple of quiet days. When Poogs realized he was out of slug milk for his cupcakes, Timpani offered to take him to the Hug Hive to get more. The goblin accepted, but first spent a few minutes checking on the rest of the team, and when he talked to Heera, she didn't look ok, so Timpani asked if she had rested at all; she, irritated, told Poogs to watch his back without taking her eyes off the druid. The goblin then proceeded to announce that Kash has sent them a letter offering them a mission investigating Heldwell's mansion. Frog assured the Poogs that he and Timpani could leave the mission to them, and the firbolg fist-bumped her two new arms. Heera declared that she would like it that way, since she needed some time away from Timpani, whose visage had been tormenting her in dreams, even if she knew the real Timpani wasn't smart enough to plot against her; somewhat hurt by the comment, he agreed, apologizing for whatever his dream self had done to her. When Poogs noticed her tattoos and pressed the matter, the tiefling admitted she might have had sold her soul without knowing, and Timpani realized that had been the source of the fire that saved them in the fight against Ügel. Shortly after, when he suggested Freedom might be able to help her, she Disguised as the Strife Emperor to show them how serious the issue was. She managed to terrify Poogs, but before leaving with him, Timpani told her that she was family now, and they wouldn't give up on her that easily.

" The Mummified Menace " (RT2x15)

While Timpani and Poogs were in the Hug Hive the former was contacted by Heera through the magical earrings. Although he had some difficulty at first, eventually the firbolg was able to hear his friend, and was surprised when she asked about his return, since she was the one saying she needed some time away from him; when the tiefling insisted that she wanted him to come back and that she missed him a little bit, Timpani was moved, but pretended he was sobbing because of allergies. He then confirmed he would be able to return to Vasselheim in a couple of hours, after regaining some strength to cast Transport via Plants again.

" The Cursed Contract " (RT2x16)

Despite his promise, Timpani was so distracted that he sent himself and Poogs to quicksand again, so they ended up arriving to Vasselheim the next morning, shocking Frog with the unlikely incident. Seeing that Farah had been organizing her notes about the cases the firbolg provided his, but she offered to organize those too before adding them to hers. When Heera mentioned that she had hired interns and they were cleaning his room, Timpani went there immediately, complaining about them disturbing his system and his favorite stains. Heera cheered him up telling him he could give them orders if he wanted (within reason) but ended up telling them all to leave the room, and the druid to go with Farah to learn about Heldwell's plans. Timpani did so and helped Farah translate and transcribe his notes, telling his friends about his encounters with nature spirits; when they went to the entrance to meet a client, Frog stayed behind to tell the firbolg she was glad he was back. The aforementioned client was a wealthy dragonborn that offered a massive amount of gold in exchange for dealing with a monster in the Thorain Tundra; when he left and Heera declared he was cool, both Timpani and Poogs questioned it, but the druid pointed out that, regarding their destination, at least they wouldn't find quicksand there. Later they received a letter carried by Idrin's hawk, in which he told them about his own adventurers, wishing he could come back already, and in which he thanked Timpani and Poogs for keeping him updated with their letters; Timpani told the rest of the Re-Slayers that he thought it was necessary to keep in touch with the wizard.

The next day they went to the park with warm clothing that belonged to Timpani in different moments of his life, and he cast Transport via Plants to go to the tundra.

" The Fading Frosts " (RT2x17)

When the Re-Slayers arrived Timpani apologized for not bringing them closer to the construction zone, explaining that the further north they went, the fewer trees were available; as they advanced they noticed that the temperature, despite being cold, fluctuated strangely, and the druid confirmed that this was not the case the last time he visited the Thorain Tundra. In the ruins they met their client's employee, Derek (who turned out to be one of the potential candidates that Timpani had summoned in Himblewood weeks before, although the firbolg didn't remember him), who explained the monster's attacks; the adventurers deduced that it could be an Apex Eidolon. When they learned the creature was angry because its forest and runic stones had been disturbed, they decided to use said rocks to move it to a new location without harming it (since in such a cold climate Timpani wouldn't be able to restore the forest easily). Heera asked the druid if he could use his Wild Shape to help with the plan, and he admitted that it wasn't his forte, with Poogs adding that his transformations were always weird; when the group insisted, Timpani proved it by turning into a talking badger that still had one of his humanoid hands (Frog drew it immediately and the others started laughing, although they tried to comfort him so that he wouldn't feel bad). Later, while the others were preparing to use the runic stones, Timpani took a moment to negotiate with Frog, telling her that if he showed her a better transformation, she would keep the embarrassing drawing to herself; he then proceeded to turn into a moose with firbolg limbs that the monk drew too, encouraged by Farah.

" The Stalked Spirit " (RT2x18)

When the group reunited they were all horrified by the strange firbolg-moose hybrid that Timpani had transformed into, and Heera told him to turn back before a nature spirit saw him and got offended. They all returned together to look for the runic stones (locating seven in total) but when the time came to use them they realized that they did not want to force the Apex Eidolon to move (since they had no guarantees that people would not invade its new territory), and decided to destroy the construction instead. When they were done cleaning the area, the elk-like spirit appeared, and Timpani told his friends to make themselves look less threatening; despite its initial aggressive demeanor, the eidolon calmed down, sniffed them all, and made a new sapling grow.

When ten marionette tendrils appeared to restrain the nature spirit, the adventurers started attacking them and Timpani cast Barkskin on Farah as a precaution. When Grimm Heldwell appeared to claim the power of the elk spirit, he used magic to paralyze Frog, Heera, and Timpani; the latter got rid of the spell shortly after and exchanged insults with the wizard, distracting him enough for Farah to hit him with lava, being grabbed by a marionette in response. A battle ensued, and Timpani cast Freedom of Movement on the blood hunter to get her out of the vine's grasp; shortly after, Heldwell cast Hold Person to paralyze Timpani once more (along with Poogs). Although Farah made Heldwell drop concentration (freeing the firbolg), it was too late, and the wizard claimed the power of the Apex Eidolon.

" The Broken Beacon " (RT2x19)

Timpani cast Mass Cure Wounds to heal his friends and wake up Frog, but when he tried to help Poogs he was attacked by Heldwell's necrotic power; soon after they were surrounded by wraiths summoned by the corrupted wizard, but Timpani refused to abandon his friend. The druid then cast Healing Spirit with his own appearance to stay next to Poogs, and after threatening Heldwell he used a perfect Wild Shape, taking the form of a tiger and trying to bite his throat; however, he didn't reach his enemy, who after declaring he had always hated Timpani, cast Finger of Death against him, leaving him again in firbolg form, and almost dead. Shortly after, however, Pike Trickfoot arrived to the battlefield, and her attacks served as distraction and motivation for the Re-Slayers; when they had damaged Heldwell's lantern enough he started preparing to leave, but Timpani, despite his wounds, cast Wall of Stone to block his way, forcing him to move around and activate Heera's Booming Blade, which cracked the lantern even more and allowed Frog to break it. The spiritual energy of the device was released and weakened the corrupted wizard so much it killed him.

After that, the adventurers were very worried about Farah (who had died because of her wounds) but Pike resurrected her, and Timpani thanked the gods. The cleric explained to the Re-Slayers how she had learned about the Timberblight's activity, receiving from Timpani an explanation of what his own group had been doing about it. Since they needed a decent place to rest, she cast Temple of the Gods to give shelter to the group for some hours; later, when the firbolg asked if Pike was really a member of Vox Machina (mispronouncing the name) she confirmed it and asked about his origins, since his accent reminded her of Pumat Sol, being amazed when he revealed himself as the enchanter's cousin. Timpani was still very emotional after all that had happened earlier, and he walked away crying very loudly, as Poogs followed to comfort him. They gathered later when Pike asked them to, as she channeled the power of the Everlight to grant them a boon, improving their health.

Poogs

Poogs is Timpani's best friend. He seems to have known Poogs for a while, long enough to work with him and expect him to support him in activities such as pretending to be members of the Slayer's Take. After they met and Timpani knew the goblin wanted to replace his own teeth with a new, more human-like set, the druid commissioned the wizard Duderonomous, who completed the task and sent the teeth to them. The two of them disagree on how much should the goblin be involved in the missions, since Timpani believes Poogs should stay away from violence and combat.

When Timpani noticed that Poogs felt jealous of Janet (because he was unaware of the firbolg's past friendships), he reassured him telling him he was his best friend.

Pumat Sol

Pumat and Timpani seem to have a cordial relationship, and even though the enchanter no longer lives with the druid, he stills send him some money monthly.
