However, some political figures took advantage of this and gathered large followings of potential rebels, and King Everard became concerned that they could gather sufficient power to challenge the crown. He founded the Augen Trust, a spy network that could secretly corrupt these politicians through bribery or the uncovering of unsavory secrets, as well as influence the population via propaganda.
