In The Mighty Nein, she was fanatical, intensely competitive, and jealous of Bren, whom she saw as being favored by Master Ikithon.

Background

Trent Ikithon referred to Owelia as one of his more recent students, who had recently graduated.

Owelia was present, standing with crossed arms and flanking the Luxon beacon along with Eadwulf when the Mighty Nein inspected it at the Vergesson Sanatorium.

The Mighty Nein

Owelia attended the Soltryce Academy at the same time as Bren Aldric Ermendrud, Astrid Becke and Eadwulf Grieve. During a class test set by Trent Ikithon across a trapped courtyard, Owelia briefly hopped on Bren and nearly caused him to fall into an ice trap while she came close to completing the challenge, only for Bren to use Telekinesis to force her onto a stasis trap; he ruffled her hair a bit before joining Astrid and Eadwulf at the finish line. Trent then released all the other entrapped students, including Owelia.

Some years later, after Owelia became a Volstrucker, she interrupted Trent's class involving the vivisection of a captive bugbear to inform him that King Bertrand Dwendal had summoned him. Following the king's council, Owelia was accompanying Trent back to his carriage when they were accosted by Vess DeRogna, who informed him that the Cobalt Soul was investigating the Luxon beacon theft at the king's request and asked if they would find anything. Owelia then shut the door after Trent assured his colleague that the Soul was unlikely to turn up anything, before driving him from the palace.

Owelia later met Adon Zeenoth at her residuum workshop, where he accused her fellow Volstruckers being careless, as he presented her a piece of residuum found at the ruins of Rockguard Garrison. While he assured her the monk who brought him this evidence would not be a problem, he inquired if she had something to do with the explosion at the garrison. Owelia chose to avoid the question and instead asked if the Cobalt Soul suspected anything. Zeenoth assured her his main investigator would write off the garrison attack as another Kryn incursion. Satisfied, Owelia dismissed him, which angered Zeenoth, but Owelia simply lit up her tattooed wrist to get him to back off.

Owelia then ran off stealthily, seemingly unaware that Beauregard Lionett was following her, only to ambush the young monk at a dead end alley. They fought for a time, with Owelia dealing several cuts before tricking Beau into triggering a poison gas trap and leaving her for dead. Owelia learned that Beau had in fact survived due to the intervention of Dairon and followed her to The Fletching and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities. She later cornered Beau's contact, Dead Eye, in the forest and interrogated him on what information was on the messaging stone he gave Beau. When told it only contained a name, she stabbed him in his good eye, killing him.

Learning that the Mighty Nein were imprisoned in Trostenwald, Owelia traveled to the town jail, just missing the party who had escaped earlier. After interrogating and massacring the guards after they failed to provide her with the whereabouts of one of the prisoners, she found an Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location in the lockup shortly before the Mighty Nein returned to the jail. As Bren, now Caleb Widogast, recognized the arcane poison that had killed the guards and desperately ran to retrieve his amulet, Owelia exploded the door, making her presence known to the Mighty Nein; both Beau and Caleb muttered, "She found me." Smiling, Owelia held up Caleb's amulet and said in Zemnian, "Master will be so pleased I found you."

Owelia attacked and poisoned Fjord before conjuring multiple shadow duplicates to attack the others. Ultimately, Beau ended the fight by using Stunning Strike on Owelia, incapacitating her long enough to bind her for questioning. However, Caleb suddenly struck the halfling in the chest with a fire spell, throwing her against a wall, before demanding his amulet back. Instead, she crushed it and taunted that he could no longer hide.

The party took her to an abandoned house in the woods where Owelia was interrogated by Beau and Caleb, but she remained silent when questioned about the Kryn artifact or the identities of her informants in the Cobalt Soul, before mocking Beau for being poor at interrogation. Caleb tortured her by superheating her chains for a short while before Beau intervened. Owelia then spoke to Caleb in Zemnian, suggesting it would be easy for the two of them to kill Beau, and he warned Beau that their prisoner was trying to sow doubt between them. Owelia ultimately succeeded when Beau understood the word "Volstrucker" and started questioning Caleb's identity. Owelia used the distraction to free herself and reclaim her spell pouch, creating a cloud of poison gas on her former captors before bursting out to the house just as Mollymauk Tealeaf and Jester Lavorre were returning. After briefly clashing with Mollymauk, Owelia ran off into the forest.

When Caleb pursued her alone, Owelia was pinned against a large tree with an earthen cat's paw. Angrily, she admitted she never understood why he was Trent's favorite and that despite Bren's betrayal, their master still wanted him back. As Caleb conjured a circle of flame around her, Owelia promised that Trent would never stop hunting him and that everyone he loved would die. Caleb retorted that it wouldn't happen by her hand before burning her alive until nothing was left but a charred corpse, but a piece of paper she was holding with Bren's name written in her own blood was magically sent away.
