Dr. Fitzwaggle is an eccentric potionmaker from Josgren's Hollow.

Description

Dr. Fitzwaggle is a short man of white beard and half-moon glasses, dressed with clothes covered in colorful stains.

He seems slightly distracted all the time, but always very enthusiastic about his products

Background

Dr. Fitzwaggle was one of the potionmakers of Josgren's Hollow, but he wasn't very appreciated, and his products were deemed less than reliable; because of this, the place he got during Potion Con in 839 PD was very bad, and when the whispers attacked he was immediately killed.

" The Hungry Cloud " (RTx06)

One of his potions, the All-Purpose Pheromone, ended up in the house of Vaughn Josgren Jr., and when Farah Vallari found it, Dr. Fitzwaggle manifested as a ghost bound to her. He appeared before the half-elf in the street (seemingly as a normal citizen) and told her about the potion she had just found before walking away.

" The Masked Man " (RT2x02)

After Farah used the All-Purpose Pheromone against Putridius Festerkin, Dr. Fitzwaggle manifested in a burned ruin in Vasselheim, which in the eyes of the blood hunter appeared as "Dr. Fitzwaggle's Funtastic Pharmacy". She recognized the potionmaker inside (without noticing that her magical crossbow reacted to his undead presence) and told him about his potion and its effects, making a deal with him to be paid for testing more of his products, such as the Insta-Jam.

" The Restless Retreat " (RT2x09)

Using his connection to Farah and the potions Dr. Fitzwaggle appeared in the Demithore Valley, shortly after she completed two missions, and asked her about the Insta-Jam (which she had used against a magma bulette). He offered her a raise for her testing services and then gave her another product, the Liquid Nesting Doll.

" The Decomposing Domicile " (RT2x13)

When Farah was back in Vasselheim and started considering a visit to Dr. Fitzwaggle's store he, knowing a living person had occupied the place, sent her a package through her window, containing a potion, an Echo Stone with a message telling her that he had created it inspired by her fight against the magma landshark; he also added raise of 13 gold pieces (although the recorded message claimed there were 40). Farah ended up going to the pharmacy nonetheless, finding a feed store instead, whose owner revealed that he been there for a few days.

" The Hopeless Hostages " (RT2x14) and " The Mummified Menace " (RT2x15)

Dr. Fitzwaggle observed the Re-Slayers' adventures inside Grimm Heldwell's manor, but didn't intervene.

" The Fading Frosts " (RT2x17)

Dr. Fitzwaggle followed Farah to the Thorain Tundra and, as he had done in the past, attracted her attention to speak with her about his products. However, during the conversation he accidentally revealed that he had been watching her, which led to him admitting he was a ghost (although a good one); he then explained his origins and powers, and how he was bound to the world and to her, unable to move on until she tried all his products. He gave her some options of how to deal with him (by leaving one of his items back in her apartment, or allowing him to assist her in her missions), and asked her not to destroy him; the blood hunter agreed to let him be for the moment, despite how annoyed she was, and asked him for more money and for a favor: to keep an eye on the Ethereal Plane in case Heldwell tried to surprise them by suddenly appearing there.

" The Stalked Spirit " (RT2x18) and " The Broken Beacon " (RT2x19)

That night, while the Re-Slayers were interacting with the local Apex Eidolon, Dr. Fitzwaggle noticed Heldwell approaching in the Ethereal Plane, so he ran to warn Farah, who told the rest of her group. A battle ensued, during which the potionmaker watched, invisible, and expressed his delight when he noticed that Farah had tried his latest potion and was glad to see it work (allowing her to throw up lava); he kept encouraging her as she fought Heldwell. She was killed at one point, and when Pike Trickfoot resurrected her, Dr. Fitzwaggle whispered to Farah that that had been close, turning her smile into a scowl.

Farah Vallari

Their relationship is one of convenience, since she is interested in profit and useful items, and he wants his creations to be used. On top of that, Dr. Fitzwaggle has shown some careful concern about the half-elf's reputation, trying to avoid situations in which she will be seen talking to someone no one else can see.

Notable items

Along with money and an Echo Stone, the following products were in Dr. Fitzwaggle's possession when he died:

  • All-Purpose Pheromone: A gold potion used to summon an elk stampede to attack the Timberblight.
  • Insta-Jam: An auto-injector syringe that temporarily turned her into jelly (thus resistant to physical damage but unable to interact with solid objects properly).
  • Liquid Nesting Doll: Flask that causes whoever drinks from it (Frog) to be reanimated each time they are knocked unconscious, although always with less health than last time, and physically shorter, although those effects fade after a few days.
  • Lava Bomb: Potion that causes whoever drinks it (if they succeed on a Constitution saving throw to control it) to barf lava at will a number of times for 1 hour, dealing bludgeoning and fire damage.

Abilities

Beyond the typical traits of a ghost, he is able to summon the items he had with him when he died as real, physical objects. Moreover, he can sense things in the Ethereal Plane in a mile radius.
