History
The Galadhrim were mostly Silvan Elves, descendants of the Nandor who, in the Great Journey, had not continued westward beyond the Misty Mountains. In the Second Age, they took the Sindarin Elf Amdír as their king, and he ruled until he was slain with many of his people in the Battle of Dagorlad.
In TA 1980, a Balrog in Khazad-dûm was freed. Upon this event, many Galadhrim fled south to Edhellond on the Bay of Belfalas, to which their king, Amroth, also came, after failing to seek his wandering lover, Nimrodel. Amroth would soon die from drowning in the Bay of Belfalas. The Galadhrim that had remained in Lórien lived there quietly, welcoming Celeborn and Galadriel as their new leaders upon their return from Rivendell. Galadriel's power protected the Galadhrim from the menaces of Dol Guldur and the Orcs of the Misty Mountains until the end of the Third Age. With the departure of Galadriel to the Undying Lands, Lórien quickly became deserted. The remaining Galadhrim either went with Celeborn to Rivendell or presumably joined with Thranduil's people in the Greenwood, where they established a realm of their own, East Lorien, and presumably maintained some of their customs like living in tree cities.[citation needed] However, they generally remained as a small remnant, and like the rest of the Elves who remained in Middle-earth, were not really as powerful as they once were.
Their language was a dialect of Sindarin.
Galadhrim was also the name used specifically for the realm's warriors.[citation needed]
Etymology
Galadhrim was a name in Sindarin meaning "Tree-people".
