Ilion was an Elf of Cuiviénen of the Minyar.

Biography

Ilion was a direct descendant of Imin in the male line, being the senior heir of Imin in his generation, from eldest son to eldest son. He was born at Cuiviénen, and belonged to the fifth generation of Elves born after the Awakening.

He was the father of Ingwë, who would become the ambassador of the Minyar when Oromë came to Cuiviénen, and would later be named King of the Vanyar in Aman. Ilion also had at least one daughter; the mother of Indis, second wife of Finwë.

The fate of Ilion is unknown. He may have come to Aman with his immediate family, may have stayed at Cuiviénen like his forefather, or he may have perished before the Great Journey could be undertaken.

Etymology

The name Ilion was a combination of il- ("sky, heaven") and -ion (a patronymic ending, "son of, descendant"), i.e. "Son of Heaven".
