Meleth of Gondolin

Meleth was a Elf-maiden of Gondolin in earlier versions of J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium.

History

Meleth was a nurse of Eärendil during his infancy in Gondolin. She told him many of stories, including some about Morgoth and his evil deeds. Thus, when Eärendil saw the lights of the enemy in his chamber during the Fall of Gondolin, he began to cry. Is unknown whether she died in the Fall or managed to survive and reach the Havens of Sirion.

Etymology

Meleth meant "love" in Noldorin.
