Biography
Valwë fled to the Great Lands along with the other Gnomes of Tol Eressëa in order to help Salmar free the Elves enslaved by Melko after the Fall of Gondolin. The Elves were utterly defeated in the Battle of Tasarinan, but Valwë managed to survive and return to Tol Eressëa alongside Tulkastor and Ingil, where he would eventually be the father of Lindo.
Etymology
Valwë is a name in Qenya possibly meaning "the happy (or fortunate) one". Valwë translated to Gwalweg in Gnomish.
In other versions
Christopher Tolkien mentioned in his commentary that though Valwë was originally written as Manwë, the name may have been a mistake.
