Aulendil was the third child and the second son of Vardamir Nólimon, the short-reigning second King of Númenor.

Biography

Aulendil was born in Númenor in an unknown location. His father Vardamir was potentially Half-elven like his grandfather Elros, the first King of Númenor. This means he may have been a Half-elf of the third generation, giving him a slow maturity and long youth like the Elves, while being fated for mortality like Men. He had three siblings, the younger Nolondil and the older Vardilmë, and the oldest Tar-Amandil who would later be crowned the third King of Númenor. Nothing else is known about his life, only that he was married and had children.

Etymology

The name Aulendil was a Quenya word that meant 'Devoted to Aulë'. It was also the same name that Sauron gave himself in the Second Age.
