Manwendil was the third child and second son of Elros Tar-Minyatur, the first King of Númenor.
Biography
Manwendil was born after SA 61 and was the elder brother of Atanalcar and the younger brother of Tindómiel and the short reigning king Vardamir Nólimon. Nothing else is known of his life except for that he was possibly married and had children.
In The Nature of Middle-earth J.R.R. Tolkien considered making the children of Elros Half-elves, giving them the same choice of mortality as the Half-elven children of Elrond. Whether he adopted this idea fully is unclear.
Etymology
Manwendil means "Devoted to Manwë" from the Quenya suffix -ndil ("friend, devoted to").
